I have shot 6 deer this year with the 250 tez, all DRT except 1 that went a short distance and dropped. Minimal meat loss and being solid copper bullet frag is not to much of a concern . Moa out to 300 yards . I can't think of a better hunting bullet for my needs. Jmo

Strider-Yes I shoot them sabotless . They fit out of package in my bore .don't see a need to size when they shoot so good without, it's a good 1 1/2 hand push on the rod. I'm sure I will eventually get a lot number where sizing will be needed though.

I duplex rd/h4198 but had good results at 100 yards with straight 65 grains h4198.(I have a bolt gun that load may not be safe in a break action) I duplex for temp sensitivity and insurance on ignition. if you can get the Barnes to obturate with your break open, I think you will be pleased with terminal performance. I found the 250 tez with a straight charge of h4198 more accurate than the .40 cal barnes in harvester light blue sabot. Kinda surprised me at the time, since I was expecting obturation issues with a straight charge and the 250 tez.

have you shot the 195 barnes saboted ? Wouldn't count that out if you can't get the tez to shoot if your set on copper bullets. Plenty of devastating proof that they are great bullet for deer.

I have not, in this sml.. however, they are on my list of options.. I used the red hots ,and they were made by barnes years ago in my knight 50, and they shot terrible then.. I'm just trying to get away from the lead..

I did some sabotless experimenting in 2008 with mixed results in my .50 cal Savage. I too noticed that even the loads that ended up being "OK" showed very little engraving at all. More like "scratches" in the recovered bullets. BUT, they did go bang and they shot to speed and they stabilized and shot OK groups.
I have always wondered.....if they do not fully engrave, how the hell do they encapsulate all the pressure without it leaking in the grooves?? Richard? Rossman? Whoops...I'm not on Doug's. LOL

Were you using a wad of some sort under the bullets...? Imo they are what facilitates pressure sealing with the solids....
