I have and have used many different triggers, over the years my taste has changed, 20 years ago is was a decent 3 lb break and I was good, now 3 lbs seems very heavy. I have Geissele triggers in my ARs and love them but for CF and ML stuff my most common hunting trigger is Timney or Jewell set @ 28 oz or so. haven't tried a Calvin Elete yet but Im sure they are great. Shilen, and Rifle Basix are good hunting triggers as well. like SSS competition triggers on the Savages, have also used Timney and Rifle Basix on them as well with good results..

I don't get to do a whole lot of target shooting so for my hunting guns I still prefer a little heavier trigger than some, in the 2.5 - 3# range as that's what I'm more used to.
I also have some Timney's and Rifle Basix on my CF's that I really like. I also like the Accu-trigger on my Savage ML 10-II pretty well. Just got an Apex with the adjustable trigger but haven't got to shoot it yet, but seems fairly decent so far from just dry firing it.

When changing triggers out from factory I prefer to use a Jewell. If you are wanting a pull weight under 2 pounds I don't think they can be beat as for the feel of it when it breaks. Hunting with a trigger under 3 pounds is risky unless you are really familiar with your rifle and are set up on a good steady ready.., also no shooting with gloves on because you won't ever get a feeling of the trigger before it fires and you can set it off before you are ready.
I have used several (just about all) other brands of triggers out they, many I like a few I don't and one I simply won't ever buy again. The Jewell is the top of the line IMO no matter what the cost, but others are pretty barn nice as well..
Timney being my second choice if that counts for anything..

I guess I could have added my thoughts in my original post. I too have a couple of jewels and timney's. Which I like a lot. I have a few varsity rifles set under 1lb. But for my deer hunting guns I like to stay at 2lbs or a little more.

I like the Jewel the best, have one on a TarHunt 12 gauge shotgun. For my Savages I like the SharpShooterSupply trigger. On the Savages they are set under 2 pounds but I shoot out of a stand only.

I have Jewel triggers on my competition rifles, my Brux SML has a Shilen 2 oz. BR trigger and the Shilen barreled SML (at least right now) has a Remington factory trigger lightened to 2.5 lbs. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the "adjusted" Remington trigger on a hunting rifle? Like Jeff said, unless your are shooting from a very steady rest with no gloves, stay away from BR type triggers.

I guess Iam the only Rifle Basix trigger guy here. I have Shilen and Timney, but on the last four Remington 700s and my old Savage ML II, I installed the Rifle Basix. With the newer Remington markx pro trigger, they make a drop in replacement which includes safety, etc and goes to 1.5 pounds. My preferred hunting pull weight is 2.25-2.5 pounds. I found this one item, trigger, can cut your groups in half compared to most factory triggers, Ray

My next build is kinda on a budget . The cool thing is triggers can always be upgraded. Unlike the break open world your sort of stuck unless you have an Apex .

competition guns- 2 oz. jewell
for a gun such as my mz benchrest/hunting gun I like a 12 oz. for crossover from comp to hunting-rifle basix is what I have & like it a lot.
I never use the safety...my bolt is my safety & never engaged until shooting moment arises.
never a glove on my shooting hand.

2.5-3.25# for me. I hunt and that is as low as I want to see on a hunting gun. On a dedicated bench gun I would personally still want about a pound so I could get a good feel for the trigger without pre-mature detonation.
I might add that a 3# trigger that breaks clean and crisp with minimal over-travel gives the impression of a lighter trigger.
The only aftermarket trigger I have been dissapointed in was a Moyer on a Ruger Model 1. I don't remember the details but I don't think that trigger would even adjust down to 3# and it felt just like the factory trigger. That could be because of the configuration of a Model 1 or because of the smith who installed it???
