CZ 457 Varmint MTR with new Lilja 21" barrel. This is not so much about the barrel, but rather the ammo and Extreme Spreads related to accuracy/precision. So, if you look at my targets from yesterday.34 degrees, sunny with zero wind as evidence by my daisy wheel wind flag set at 25 yards (the groups were shot at 50 yards). I have listed the group sizes, average velocity and ES for each five shot group. Starting with a clean barrel (with only 90 shot on this new barrel) I fouled it with 10 shots of CCI standard. The first four groups were with SK standard+. Group 1 looked pretty good at .290". You can see my average velocity for that one group was 1030 with a 29 fps ES (LabRadar). Now group 2 started out with four shots in .254" when just like that....the last shot dropped out way low! Looking at the LR I see 994 fps! That is what can and does happen with cheaper ammo that has higher ES's. There was a gentleman a week ago that said he hot 15 fps ES with SK standard? My reply was "how often?" I only shot four groups with this ammo and from my notes above the target, you can see those groups averaged 1024 fps with a 23 fps ES. And yes, group 4 had an 11 fps ES but the group strung vertically into .424". The next three groups were shot with Center-X and averaged 1031 fps with a 14 fps ES and a group average of .326". The three groups on the right with Eley Match (1060) were actually shot after the eight groups on the bottom row but the ES there was only 7.3 fps and group average was .291" The bottom row was all shot with Eley Match (1060). I consider the first group a sort of "fouler" after the Center-X. Still you can see the average velocity was 1093 with a 12.6 ES and average group size of .332". So to the gentleman with one group 15 fps ES, I say shoot more groups and then report on the ES. It is too soon to tell and I ran four different ammo/lots thru the barrel but I have a feeling it will produce better groups than the original CZ match barrel

I would definitely say that barrel shows a lot of potential! Nice shooting. I still have a handful of boxes of Lapua Midas (I think it's Midas) from a case I bought almost 20 years ago. Hard to bring myself to shoot it since I am no longer shooting smallbore matches

Richard at one time I shot a lot of 22lr mainly small bore silhouette. I still have two Suhl 150 match rifles one I kept original and the other I shorten the barrel to 20 inches. I also have two Remington 504 rimfires that both have Lija barrels. Lija makes a good barrel what chamber do you have in your barrel I had a Eley reamer made that worked well sold that a few years back.
The Suhl's shot almost anything you put through them as you know a 22lr is a breed all to itself it may shot expensive ammo really good making the cost more acceptable then again it might hate the high priced Eley and shoot RWS or Wolf or Fed. 711b it all depends on the lot you get. I shot a lot of PMC target before they changed something, and it shot like crap The Fed 711B seems to shoot pretty decent. When I tested ammo i shot 25 shot strings to see if there were any real bloopers.
90 shots is not enough on a rimfire barrel to get it to shoot small groups. Once you settle on a specific lot of ammo don't shoot any other brand down the barrel or it will change the lube that you laid down. And don't clean the barrel either or you will be starting over from scratch.
We held 200 yard bench rest matches after our light gun match for a few years. 10 shots for record at 200 yards with a 22lr is a tough deal especially when its winding but some guys did really well, We don't hold matches anymore because the guy that ran it passed away and nobody else wanted to run it.
Shooting a good 22lr off the bench will show you imediately how good your follow through really is.

Yes, I completely agree about shooting a good 22 being a clear indicator of proper follow through, as well as an indication of the proper use of the other shooting fundamentals. The 22 has just enough recoil to make errors appear in the movement of the sights during recoil. It is a little more challenging to see with just iron sights, using a scope makes it blatantly obvious. And the mild recoil allows you to see things you likely wouldn't see with a larger cartridge.
