A friend took me out to his place earlier so we could get everything ready to hunt tomorrow after our Bible studies. Well i am sitting there in the Rhino side x side n this tick toter steps out of the woods about 75 yards from me. I use the frame support n put xhair on its chest. It does not show antlers, i shot it n had double lung shot n blood poured out of it. Ran about 40 yards, turned out to be a button n that makes 6 tick toters that Mjolnir has put down with 6 shots

What gun and load are you shooting now? Lots of hunters still getting it done with old school, original loads still. I would love to upgrade to the newer super high performance guns too, but my wallet is too thin and our state allows hpr now so I am spoiled with those.

I have the NEF .45 still, same Slufoot conversion. Got it to shoot 2.250" groups at 100 yards with 200 gr XTP with L B sabot n 17 grs of Blue dot n dry wool wad. I would like to up grade to a bit better outfit later this year

Would be great for kids and the ladies too. I think you said you have a bum shoulder? I'm getting bum all over. Lol

Mike, The quickest way to finely hone the accuracy of a crossbow, the easiest way for many is to upgrade the scope. However, with a decent scope, great arrows can greatly increase the accuracy. To me, the scope and arrows are more important , for accuracy, than the crossbow (unless it’s a SWAT series - barreled).
For years, I shot 195 Barnes and 200SSTs (knurled up) through my 10ML2 based 40 cal with an air gauged PacNor barrel. 3/4” 100 yard groups, 1 1/2-2” 200 yard groups and 3-4” , 5 and 6” groups at 300 yards in low to no wind. OK but not great.
Enter Kyle’s 225 AccuMax 40 cal. Sized with Hank’s smooth sizing die, a wool wad, a too hot a load even for a 209 ignition 7/70 VV110/Varget (2950’/sec). And a ragged hole @100, clover leafs at 200 yards, and 1 1/2-2” @ 300. Same 16-17 year old rifle (2-3 years ago). Yes, this is a good rifle, but it didn’t come alive until it got great bullets. Thank you , Kyle !!
Mike, a Lee fixed sizing die in 0.399 or maybe 0.400 , for sizing the 225g Pittman and shooting it with 32 - 36g VV110 , a HLBS, a Maine wool wad would likely transform the NEF into a new rifle that would be hard to imagine.

I would bite on this too! But, fortunately/unfortunately whichever way to look at it, I have so many 200sst I will likely croak before I ever get them used up. As we know, slowing them down a little is what makes all the difference. My hunting had changed from fields to hardwoods, so my ranges shortened a lot. Now, 2400fps, will take any deer I come across to make meat.

Deadeer, Ironic that you mention that. Me too - 200SST blems from midway years ago. I’m loaning the Sav to my son-in-law (has never shot a smokeless MLer) and it’s loaded with 200 SST, 5/65 , 110/Vgt. I’ve been testing with 4005 Hammers so had to resight anyway. Safe in mine, yours - ? So nice to live in a litigious environment. 😡

Most places are sold out no back order. I have about 35-40 SST n SW left. So i will have to purchase some bullets in the next 60 days or so, thank you

I think it gets down to, are the 200SST/SW and/or195 Barnes adequate for a person’s desired range and terminal performance or is more range needed? Out to 150 yards, if the 195 Barnes won’t very effectively kill anything hunted or encountered, I just don’t want to be where ever that is. However, 175 yards is the starting point for it’s ballistic limit and maybe about the end of it. A brick can only be thrown only so far. However, at 150 yards and less, it has devastating performance.
Now, much higher ballistic coefficient bullets can breathe new life into previously shorter range rifles. When the B/C goes from 0.18 - 0.19 (B195), 0.265 (200SST) to 0.36- 0.385 (AM 225-250) then it’s easy to extend the range of the same rifle from 150-175 to easily 300 yards. Or, just shoot a lot flatter to 200 yards.
Just who doesn’t want to shoot more efficient bullets?
