First off, I would like to thank Jeff and Richard for putting on Hank's message board a sub board for rimfire cartridges. Thank you. Certainly there are others that enjoy the information and conversation on here that also find enjoyment in rimfire shooting. Wether it's precision paper punching or taking a youngster out in the woods after squirrels with a favorite old 22. Had a unique opportunity the other day to purchase a little bit of an unusual rifle. Had I not bought it, it was going to be put up for online auction. Well, it came home with me instead. Almost brand new. All the factory documents and original shipping/purchase information came with it. I do not believe it was ever fired after it left the factory in Germany. Someone has glass bedded and pillar bedded the action. The 5 round magazine is missing and so is the trigger blade. I suspect that whomever did the bedding job may have ended up with the magazine and trigger blade. The shipping documents are from early 2018. So who knows, this gun has obviously been sitting around for some time. The original owner had passed away before he ever had the opportunity to take it to the range. It was found tucked under a bed. I was offered the chance to purchase it because it was known that I have an appreciation for such rifles. And I could not pass this one up. The benchrest stock is not of interest to me. At some point I intend to get a standard sporter stock and keep the original one in the box. Order a few parts and a swap out of the stock should make this a real fine plinking/hunting gun.

Good find on a very nice rifle. Thanks Dennis. Got a magazine and trigger blade on the way. Probably won't shoot it for awhile though.

That was definitely a good find!
Myself? Like probably most, had some type of 22 rimfire for occasional plinking. To be continued...heading to the range this morning and have to get the dogs out....

Good day at the range shooting my CZ 457 Varmint MTR with new Lilja barrel. Continued from above.....along the way acquired a Rem. 541-T and another Remington in .22 mag. Then a slightly used 10/22 from a friend who needed some money. That rifle subsequently got a Green River barrel from Midway, then an after market trigger from Ruger. Not liking the stock I totally modified the original birch stock and molded in a 2 1/4" flat forend to match one of my front bags. That stock was painted a slick red. However, I never was really comfortable with the way the pistol grip fit. I subsequently added one of those swoopy laminate stocks from Boyd's and also added a fluted barrel. It shot pretty darn good and I won a few club matches against some higher end .22's but then the Voodo's and CZ's and Annie's came along to nose me out. This past summer, one of our members, who had the CZ mentioned above and who won some matches with, decided he needed an Annie (Anshutz) and sold me the CZ to get some money towards his newer toy. That is how I got hooked! Since that time I now own a barrel tuner and just got a custom Lilja match barrel for it. Along with the new rifle came a whole lot of quality ammunition (EXPENSIVE) The thing is, these quality rifles also need to be fed quality ammo. I have played with many versions of SK ammo along with Eley match and Eley Tennex plus Lapua Center-X and others. Its a matter of finding which ammo your rifle likes and then buying a quantity of the same lot #. .22 ammo can vary from lot to lot. You have to buy ammo from dealers that cater to competitive shooters. They list the ammo by lot numbers and how much of it they have in stock. You generally want to buy a couple of boxes (50/box) of various lots and then test them as soon as you can. When you find the one that shoots the best, go back to that dealer and check and see if he has more of that lot number and buy what you need or can afford. The .22 game is shot in a number of different formats from steel targets in various positions to tiny bullseye targets as in true benchrest fashion. Most all these benchrest matches are shot at small bullseyes with one shot per bull. A lot of the matches are shot at 50 yards. So, Smokelessk saw I had some interest in .22's and asked if I could get a section of the forum going utilizing these rifles. I asked Hank and he delivered. I how others who have an interest in .22's will join in. Its nice to get into these LESS recoiling rifles which do present a challenge.

I have been buying cheap ammo for awhile now, don't have a real high end gun for the good stuff. I have 4 .22's, mostly old family stuff. The best one is a Rem 513T purchased from a closing military installation in Maine. The aperture sights were probably worth more then the gun....But I intend to introduce the grandchildren to rimfire as they get old enough. Starting soon with the oldest. I will be dropping in occasionally. I am a member in the rimfire forum online, not active, just read about ammo and the guns...

Forgot to mention, that is a really sweet gun. I used to shoot with a few guys in Canada and Maine that had the old Winchesters and some Annie's.

I have owned an Anchutz sporter for probably 40 years, very accurate with target and med. velocity rounds, not as good with the high velocity stuff but good enough for tree rats.
