So I have been waiting for over a month to hear from ruger about my SRH 454, sent in for them to "fix". I have never been able to get what I would call a nice group from this gun, even with a leupold scope.after after checking all the factory specs per their cust serv rep. I slugged the barrel, used a .457 round ball. From muzzle to back of the front sight base nice snug fit once rifling cut in, then bullet fell @4" to about even with frame where barrel meets it. Then same snug fit, measured at .452 across grooves. Did this twice same result. Called for return label shipped out they received on 10/7.
I called to check on it yesterday and was told it shot to their specs, at 15yds with Iron sights. So I asked did they check the barrel and he said ,no we didn't test that.
So basically they told me that a "hunting" rig shot good enough at 15yds, and sorry we couldn't duplicate your issue. What?
So after voicing my disgust with their lack of checking tolerances ,i told them to send it back and i will sell it. Keep in mind it was supposed to already be in the shipping dept to leave today. Then this morning I get the same guy calling me claiming that he gave it some thought and slapped scope on it and they miraculously got a 1" group at 100yds today but yesterday he said they didnt have access to more than 50yds? I basically told him he was full if it and return my freaking gun. Then after double checking the tracking info it left today, I find it very HARD to buy this story of attempting to test the gun after it was already in the shipping dept? I own several ruger guns but will not purchase another, I have other scoped handguns that do shoot 2" or better at 100 but not this one. Total disappointment. Sorry for the rant, love the gun but it won't shoot well enough for me to trust it past 50yds which is pointless with a 454 casull. I can that with 45colt.
