Bill and I had a great time in our round trip journey to Colorado. We did what we sat out to do for sure. I will try my best in the next upcoming days to comment further on this thread and add pictures. Folks I tested positive for Covid around 12:30 today. I have not lost my sense of taste, smell or appetite. Everything I eat tastes extremely salty. My temp has run as high as 102.7 and is 102.2 right now. I was not diagnosed with pneumonia, however I was prescribed antibiotics and steroids. Other than the fever, I feel ok but I am quarantined for the time being. I am waiting on a call from the hospital for an appointment for the monoclonal infusion. Hopefully I will get better instead of worse and be back to normal in a few days. Prayers on the way up ! Take it easy and we hope you do well . KK

Here is the view from the world famous Takealeak Pass a few miles down the road from where we got off of I-70 Very beautiful country out there! This is a view of the back of the ranch where we were setup. This view is basically North to South. Here is a view of the setup that Bill and I had shooting out to 1780 yards. Russell, the bench works great. Thank You Here is a group photo of everyone present to witness the 1780 yard shooting for exception of Tom Rader from the Firearms Blog and Evan Kruze, the videographer, both were taking pictures. Here is a view of the canyon that we were shooting down into. Maybe someone with skills can magnify some of these pics to see the targets? Folks I am feeling much better and I haven't ran a fever since this morning. Hopefully in a few more days life will be back to semi normal again. It feels great to be a part of what transpired over the course of 5 days out in Craig Colorado. I want to give a great big thank you to John and Chad of Mesa Precision Arms for hosting the event and for bringing to market the absolute best High - Performance Muzzleloading action to date! Evan you did a great job on camera and I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labor. Tom I look forward to seeing your writeup about the event and it was a great time sharing conversation with you. Curtis you have a great family and are blessed to call your ranch home. Scotland you absolutely are one of the hardest working individuals that I have ever met in my entire life, thank you sir for all that you do! Bill was successful on what he set out to accomplish. 1780 is a long poke on the steel, which we later measured to be 31 1/2" by 31 1/2". If you look closely you will see a bullet hole about an inch or so above steel on the right strap. This impact produced enough vibration to set off the indicator light, look closely on the left edge of the steel. The indicator light went off 6 times in a row and we thought 6 consecutive impacts occurred. Sometimes technology hangs out with old man Murphy! When Bill shot the doe antelope at 896, the decline was significant and there was some wind. I was impressed with how the Aeromax .402" 350 grain performed at this distance. The exit hole was at the last or next to last rib on the right side of the animal, a large percentage of the contents got sucked out of the slightly larger than baseball exit hole. Bill threaded the needle on his follow up shot at 733 yards on his buck antelope. This is a long poke for a lightweight .45 for certain. Bill was shooting an Aeromax .452" 303 Grain Hard Core and the bullet must have performed great. We both talked later about how we should have looked for the bullet as it did not exit.
From my perspective I was there to support the Mesa Precision Arms crew and to field test their new muzzleloader action, Mesa Altitude stock and to support Bill on his long quest to document hitting targets at a mile and beyond. JR Shultz put my rifle together for me in record time, when I do my part it shoots in the same hole. Everything happened very quickly leading up to the trip. Bill called me on August 23rd to see if I wanted to go and could make schedule arrangements. I received approval from my day job the following day, from then on we had a plan. I shot the gun a dozen or so times back in Tennessee before heading out to Colorado for the target shooting and the hunt. I decided this rifle was to be the only rifle I took out to Colorado out of respect for the Mesa Precision Arms crew. These guys are good people as we say back home and I wanted everything to stay in focus and on topic with regards to their new action and stocks. Testing bullet performance was a big part of the trip for me as well. My buck was taken at 300 yards almost perfectly broadside. I hit about 4" higher than I wanted to. Nonetheless he went straight down and did not even flinch when he hit the dirt! I did hit bone, however the exit hole was not nasty - about the size of a silver dollar. My doe was taken at 225 yards. she was quartered to and I tucked the crosshairs right in behind the shoulder to not destroy the meat. I hit where I was aiming and to my amazement and that of everyone watching - she ran off. Bill saw hair fly with binoculars at the shot. We circled around the hill and saw her laying stone cold dead in excess of 100 yards from where she was on impact. The bullet exited just right behind the last rib on the opposite side, less than a quarter in diameter. She was a monster of a doe antelope and was much larger than the buck I took. These critters can run most certainly, they act like a cross between mexican jumping beans and jack rabbits. Bill and I saw one jump a fence at 40 MPH keeping up with the truck when we were leaving the ranch.
I hope Bill and I get to do this again with the Mesa Precision Arms crew in the future. If so I will be carrying two rifles on the next trip out beneath those western skies.
Happy Trials Kyle Pittman

Glad you added that Kyle I did not take a picture of the targets headed up the canyon, maybe Kyle did? If not when Evan gets the video done it will really put things into perspective.

This is a really good article, maybe I missed the info about the video but where can we catch the viewing of the filming ? thanks Don, The videographer told me he had slightly over 1 terabyte of data, recorded video and audio, to edit and put together. It will take a few weeks for the videos to get over to the Mesa Crew for review. Id say not long after that we should have the final product to see.
