Glad to hear you are doing better Kyle. I had the "everything taste salty" deal as well.

SO after some reflection on this trip Kyle and I made to Colorado I have reached some conclusions. 1. One can make long distance kills even with a sub 8 lb unscoped gun, (9 lb 14 oz scoped with bipod rail) BUT and I stress the BUT, the fact that I had a spotter and Kyle calling dope and ranging the animal made all the difference, Antelope typically don't stand still long during the rut so it complicates things. 2. One MUST have a very accurate load with a very low ES to make predictable hits at extended distances. Kyles load of H-4895 had very good speed and a good es from his 26" barrel, making hits out past 1200 Yds pretty predictable and very accurate.
The 92 grains of Benchmark with a 303 HC is super accurate, has good speed from a 24" tube (2920) and a very low ES, thanks to Keith McDowell for recommending that load, It had been 3 years since I had shot that powder and it had always been from a longer barrel. 3. One MUST have and use a good scope level for extended range shooting, I have been using levels on my scopes for years and have learned to constantly check it before pulling the trigger. 4. One MUST have a good rest to make extended range hits. I shot my big .40 from my regular ole Dog Gone Good branded bags, a very good choice for anyone that wants a good bag set up to shoot from the bench. Kyle was shooting from a BOG Deathgrip tripod in the field and it worked great, I shot my light gun from a bipod in the field. Keep in mind that the elevation in Colorado, about 6000 ft helped us some with less than usual dial ups than here in Tn, here @ 1000 yds and 1,850 ft elevation I have 2 more MOA of dial up. Soon the video will be released, I look forward to watching the two "Tennesseans", (as Kyle refers to us) on video, I call myself a plain old Hillbilly after listening to myself on video before, (hard to listen too) but I am what I am. We will share a link here to the video, it should at best be entertaining, at worst boring?

My hat is off to those of you who have the skills to make such long shots. Where I hunt a 200yd. shot would be max and I don't worry about holdover or missing (except for the occasional limb that wanders into the bullets flight path). I am anxious to see the video, thx to Bill and Kyle for sharing their hunt and adventure.

I might add that before this trip my longest kill was @ 370 yards, that was last season here in TN.
So before some jump to the conclusion that I practice long range kills? I don't and generally don't advocate such.
This trip was to showcase the potential OF Smokeless guns and we stretched the limits while doing so. After the video comes out I'm sure I will get some flak for taking the shots I did but we all thought it was doable before even trying, I really wanted a 1000+ kill and it didn't happen, I know soon someone who is a much better trigger man than me will likely get it done, it's just a matter of time.
It truly was an adventure and we both thouroughly enjoyed it, I just hope the video reflects that and people enjoy watching it.
