Had a guy today tell me he broke his extractor trying to get the plug out with out taking the extractor out. All the work we go through to shoot these muzzle loaders and it's just to much to remove one little roll pin. Or do like 82mastertech said and leave the roll pin out and never have to mess with it again. The Pin that holds my scout together is a PITA to remove like I have to use a dead blow hammer and punch everytime to nock it out and back in each time. I don’t have a good gun vice to hold it while broken open and hate banging on it in general. I am not sure which roll pin I can leave out but would be all ears. I was not aware there was a pin to leave out. I don’t have 4 sizing dies to set up and leave for all of my rifles and bullet so usually remove the breach plug to knock the bullets back out when sizing isn’t quite right. And push them through after getting it right. Leave the roll pin out that retains the extractor.

My gun will not break open far enough to allow the extractor to come out I dont have a retention pin on mine that I am aware of. If I break it down, remove the barrel from the stock the extractor slides right out but it hits the receiver section when assembled.

If I break it down, remove the barrel from the stock the extractor slides right out but it hits the receiver section when assembled. If your in that big of a hurry to get the plug out, switch to DI and remove the extractor from your gun. Then you can remove the plug without disassembling the gun. Or you can remove your roll pin completely and glue your spring to your extractor and reinstall. To remove the plug you will have to take off the forearm and remove your barrel and slide out the extractor and then you can remove your plug. It will take you less than one minute to remove the forearm, barrel and plug with no roll pin.

That is my current set up, no retention pin just kind of a pain to take the forearm and then remove the barrel I have to nock it out with a punch and hammer. I went with a asg plug because I didn’t want a powder chamber left over so I can shoot light loads of of powder for a youth. I plan to grind some on the extractor after season as someone else showed. Hank just mentioned I needed to remove the retention roll pin and I wasn’t sure what he was taking about. I appreciate the suggestion though. I may look at direct ignition for my next build

Here's what I did. Worked quite well. Just go slow and check for fit. With the socket installed, the extractor can be pushed down just a bit further with my finger. I'm guessing the Scout extractor is similar, if not the same. I did this today and only removed material closest to the extractor side with a dremel and a blade sharpening bit. It works like a charm now thanks the for the help!
