I have a scout conversion and my neighbor has a hunter. His opens far enough to remove the extractor then remove the breech plug which is very convenient. Mine will not break open far enough to allow the extractor to come out. There was a thread a while back that mentioned some modification to that can anyone share pictures on how to complete this? It has asg ignition and the plug will not fit around the extractor end while assembled

Just slightly press down with a small screw driver on the extractor. It will move far enough down to remove the plug. At least it did on the Scout Hank sent me for evaluation.

This situation is what prompted me to choose the DI system in my Apex and Scout, no extractor and therefore no problem removing the plug. Everyone doesn't like the DI but for me in a brake action I love it.

Like Richard said I just push down on the extractor with my finger and can turn the breech plug right out with my HIS system on my scout

My two Apex conversions use the ASG plug. I ground some material off my extractors which allowed them to be pushed down and the breech plug removed. I don't feel like the stength of the extractor was compromised but I'm not a machinist, just a DIY'er. I'll try to give you some pics soon.

I was debating about trying this because it doesn’t need to be very much

Mine also will not clear the ejector. Had to take it back apart to get the plug out. Please update if there is a solution.

Mine doesn't clear either. Would love to see pics of the exact spots being ground off. Since I only have one extractor I don't want to screw it up.

Sorry about no pics posted yet, I had to put in overtime at work all week and tomorrow is opening day of our early muzzleloader season. I will try to post pics of what I did, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Here's what I did. Worked quite well. Just go slow and check for fit. With the socket installed, the extractor can be pushed down just a bit further with my finger. I'm guessing the Scout extractor is similar, if not the same.

Thanks for the pic and explanation. I was thinking some had to be ground off the top. Glad you confirmed.

I worked on a Scout today had no issues taking the plug in and out using a Craftsman 7/16 socket that's 1/4 inch drive

I removed my roll pin that locks the extractor.

Had a guy today tell me he broke his extractor trying to get the plug out with out taking the extractor out. All the work we go through to shoot these muzzle loaders and it's just to much to remove one little roll pin. Or do like 82mastertech said and leave the roll pin out and never have to mess with it again.

The Pin that holds my scout together is a PITA to remove like I have to use a dead blow hammer and punch everytime to nock it out and back in each time. I don’t have a good gun vice to hold it while broken open and hate banging on it in general. I am not sure which roll pin I can leave out but would be all ears. I was not aware there was a pin to leave out. I don’t have 4 sizing dies to set up and leave for all of my rifles and bullet so usually remove the breach plug to knock the bullets back out when sizing isn’t quite right. And push them through after getting it right.
