I saw a hen turkey today in Ohio with her young brood. They were smaller than an adult quail. Figured they would be larger by now but she may have lost her first clutch to racoons etc.

I have not seen the first poult in my area of TN. I see adult birds almost daily on the farm so the hatch is not looking good for my area.

I read that the number of poults and survival rates in the Midwest is down to below replacement. No one is quite sure why. I had more on my farm this year than in years. An update, after the quite small ones I saw two hens with poults from medium size to the size of pheasants. See birds pretty regularly.

Live in foot hills of Ozarks. Have seen birds treading on hens from March 16th thru as late as June 16th. And no I'm not making this up. Lol. For what it's worth, I've seen one hen make 3 nest. She nested in same place for 3 years. And I mean same spot. Within a foot. I guess whatever stole her eggs finally got her r maybe she died. Not only did she nest in same spot. One year I saw her try three times. So breeding last longer than most people beleave. I've been told I'm full of sheet. I just say I don't need to lie. My truth is interesting enough!

Just saw my first poults this morning. They were about 5 miles from my farm standing on the side of the road in the rain. Looked to be 8 or 10 of them about the size of a grouse.
