I don't rekon I know what vhf fequencies are but look into the Baofeng radios. I have 4 of them and have them set up to run on the marine bands. The 7 and 8 watt models are incredible, so much so that I now use my handheld tied into a magnetic antenna on my truck as a portable. In this configuration I get 7-10 miles depending on the atmospheric conditions and lay of land.
Make sure and check the frequencies you need if interested.

The one I got has a 6 watt booster button on it....I bet the 7 and 8 watt are the bomb....Supposedly the game wardens don't monitor vhf,and that's why these guys have gone that route for communication...I am on the water during the summer so it will be a dual purpose device...I HAD to buy,lol....

We use them running coyotes after all the deer seasons are over. Use 20 watt head units in the truck and use the handheld when we get out of the truck.
I should look at a new one , mine is a 5 watt

I run fishing boats, we switched to VHF (Very High Frequency) pretty much decades ago. more channels, more range, better reception. etc. I havent even heard of CB in a while, most wheelhouses today dont have them at all.

Up here in Tennessee we use a Folger's Coffee can at each end with 25 lb test Trilene betwitxed them. Works pretty good unless it's raining.
