Let's discuss vacuum sealers. Mainly wanting for meat and fish.
We are on our second Foodsaver cheapie, and they suck. It stops short of full vacuum everytime. I have used a midrange one, seemed ok. Recently borrowed a Cabelas commercial 15". It is the nuts! The vacuum draw is 28", where as the cheapie is 22" of vacuum. The good ones also have the wet or dry function, and hose for canning jars. I am considering the 12" version from Cabelas or Weston.

I’ve been using a Weston since around 2013. I had killed or given away 6 foodsavers to that point just never happy with them hoping the next model would be better. I have seen no reason to look at any other models once I got the Weston.

Good to know alternatives. Our FoodSaver is on its last leg.

Also getting word of the Nesco vs12 being a very good option for $125ish. Found out a guy we know has had one for a few years and very reliable, another guy couple months but he did a pile of deer and a bunch of fish so far. Said way above the Foodsavers.
Will keep any info coming as I get it. Please do the same. Thanks.

Way above food saver that doesn’t take much. The only thing I liked about them is they were readily available and got me into vacuum sealing. 😁
I have let a few people use my Weston. They then go buy a foodsaver and ask what they are doing wrong. After that happening twice I try to head it off at the pass now but it doesn’t always work.

I found the Nesco vs-12 on Amazon for $92. Figured what the heck, give it a shot. We packaged all the walleye we brought home, a couple steaks, and various things to test the different settings. So far, seems to be pretty good. I like that it does a double row seal. Anything has to be better than a Ziplock bag!
Also trying premade vacuum bags instead of rolls. I got 200 quart and 100 gallon for $25 each size. One less step over the roll of bags. Seems to be working out good so far.

I hope you have found a good inexpensive option.

I hope you have found a good inexpensive option. If not, I will be testing the return policy. 😉 Like the 5k other times in my life, I settled for something less than I originally wanted, and ended up buying it later on anyway. 🙄 I swear, you'd think I would of learned by now!

I’d like to say I’ve learned BUT I can’t.

This is were you need to say buy once and cry once and done. I have been applying that motto more as I grow older. Toughest part is I am a single income family with a 10yo. So got to be frugal with the cash flow and concentrate on what counts the most.

Still very pleased with the Nesco vs-12. It has turned out to be a really good unit. We have done a bunch of fish and meats. So far very happy with the amount of vacuum and the double seal has kept every bag pulled tight. I give it a thumbs up for my money.

I went through two or three food saver vacuum sealers. None lasted more than a couple years and overall didn’t didn’t perform all that well especially on fish. On top of that the bags are crazy expensive. Eventually decided to purchase a chambered vac sealer. Specifically a Vacmaster. The initial cost for the unit was close to 800. Three and four mil bags are pennies apiece. The unit is fast and easy to use. All wild game and fish now get vac packed. It also seals liquid well also. Only drawback is it does take up some counter space. But gets used multiple times during the week.
