Shot a funnel downrange! Well, Tuesday it occurred! I had loaded a duplex charge and for whatever reason, I got distracted and failed to take the funnel out of the muzzle. The fat part of the funnel (the bowl) is exactly the same diameter as my muzzle brake (1 ") So, thinking the rifle was loaded, I pulled the trigger only to get a resounding boom and muzzle flash. My first thought was that I forgot to load a bullet so, I proceeded to load another charge but.....I could not find my funnel where it should have been laying? That was when I realized what had occurred. I walked 40 yards down range directly in front of my barrel and there it was, laying in the grass. A little dirt in the end but otherwise unscathed! My funnel is such that you cannot load a bullet thru it like Jeff's so it was not a dangerous situation. Even so with Jeff's funnel, the bullet will generally just pass thru it although the pressure blast will send the funnel down range. In either case, shooting funnels down range is not a serious situation but, you may not not find it or it may be damaged. You have got to be thinking all the time with these rifles!

When I left mine in I got to find out what recoil was like with a 325 at 2700fps in a break action without a break. Certainly not pleasant but manageable. My break stayed in and swelled into my break slightly. Kyle or Bill advised me to put it on a necklace and have not forgotten “YET”. Certainly a great reminder Richard about some of the things that can go wrong.

Thanks for sharing and a good reminder to load and proceed with caution.

I knew at some point I was gonna do that very thing. After catching myself several times I came up with a remedy. MY 27 in Encore was to short for a necklace so I braided up some red paracord and replaced Hanks lanyard with an obnoxiously larger one with a loop in the end. I now hook the lanyard to my belt or belt loop so if the funnel is in the rifle you can't even get it on the bench or your shoulder. When not in use I just put the funnel in my pocket still attached to my belt or belt loop. I know It's not a better way to slice bread but sure has saved me a phew bucks!

I did the same thing one my first times out with my bolt action SML. I bought some neon orange neck lanyards and wear mine around my neck, same way I do when hunting.
