I have been going around and around and around in a nice 2008 Chevy Avalanche, Bought for cash at the dealer, left the dealer, alarm was going crazy with "low oil pressure, stop engine immediately, but pressure gauge was reading fine, went back, dealer didn't even look at it and diagnosed "its the oil pressure sending unit" was like sure it is...drove home and took it too a shop and it turned out it was "just my luck" the oil pump, inside the oil pan, got a new one on a Friday, shop calls and says, the one we installed was bad, finally one that's works on Saturday, also code on reader was gas pedal sensor, ok no big deal I can install a new gas pedal with sensor. Parked in driveway on Sunday noticed a oil leak, tried Stop Leak, just my luck didn't work, took it too another shop and found out the break vibration was from needing pads and calipers all around. ahahaha only me....went to same shop for oil leak, they said it was slightly overfilled with oil and that's why it was leaking out of the front seal, nottttt, also had them to a overall check, found out both belts were cracking and idle arms were weak, another 460.00 , drove a few miles yesterday with correct oil level, put paper under crankshaft pulley, and yes correct you got it....seal is still leaking, like I told them yesterday morning....also code for throttle comes back, now I am going to install a new electronic throttle body, shop wanted 446.00 hahahaha yea right......bought another from o'reilley's, maybe now I can concentrate on shooting , after I pick it up in a couple hours with the crankshaft seal

I have used them in the past and they work. When the seal goes bad it lets dirt get to the balancer and it wears a groove in it. Hope they get you fixed up.

dennis, any idea on the chevy throttle body re-learning procedure, the run 3 minutes off 1 minute isn't working First I would clean the throttle body real good then try what you are doing 2 times then take it out and drive it at around 45-50mph. After you do that shut it off then do the run 3min off 1 min again. it should be ok. Hope this helps.

Hope it all ends up good. You have to consider what you are spending and what a new one costs. When it is done you will know exactly what you have.

The pig is still poking me, I discovered the PCV Valve hose had about a 3 Inch crack on the rubber hose that attaches to the valve cover , since the pcv valve is built in the cover, the original cover had a bad design, where the oil would be sucked into the combustion chamber and the redesigned cover is totally different, so if your running a gmc 5.3 v 8 and your using oil this might be your issue, i have went to a couple dealers to ask about this and they look at me like i dont have a clue what i am talking about

After getting valve cover replaced its obvious to me even that oil gets vacuumed up thru the round hole on old style cover because hole is directly over a rocker arm and lifter and new opening is not, ill report back in a few hundred miles or so , if this stopped the oil consumption

I use to eliminate them and run a hose to the opposite side of the engine and down to the bottom of the frame rail behind the tire. They are not really necessary to get rid of crank case pressure. Older cars had breathers in the valve covers.

Had that happen on my 4.8 silverado when it was about 12 yrs old. Took the unit out and removed the screen and was good to go.
