I just bought some in ear 33db protection so I can hunt with my Sav-Brux barrel nut gun which has a brake. They allow amient sound though a little muffled so far as I can tell. I shot a couple 22 rounds off the back porch to make sure they worked and they seem on par or better than other stuff I have. I want to be able to not have to put on hearing protection at the moment I see a deer that is why I wanted something like this so I am ready now. Most times in woods hunting, which is all I do, good bucks only present themselves for a moment and I don't want to miss an opportunity because I was putting on ear protection. Just wanting to shoot a deer with my new rifle and trying to stack the deck in my favor. I will report what I am using later good or bad.

Smart move. Wearing hearing protection while hunting would have saved a lot of hearing loss for the old time hunters. I'm a huge advocate of suppressors for this very reason. Although I don't own one yet I certainly hope to.
Thanks for your post though about your investment in your hearing. It reminded me to be sure I take my "ears" with me this weekend. I'll be pursuing deer with my 629 Smith. That ported 6" barrel really barks when it spits out a 240 grain XTP. Keep us posted on your new purchase.

Safariland Impulse 33db is what I am trying and after a couple hours at the range and comparing with over ear Otis that I have ambient sound is same and sound reduction is better than the over ear Otis. Not uncomfortable but only had them in for 2 1/2 hours. These were only $16 and change from Amazon and I will continue to use them. I believe they are worth the small cost figured I wasn't out much if they didn't pan out. They come with a keychain hard carry case so far I think I like them.

I bought a pair of the Walkers game ear muffs. It is nice to hear the amplified noise and have the hearing protection. I was a little concern with the muffs interferring with my cheek placement on the stock. They have actually worked well. Only complaint I have is I get "feedback" from my cell phone even if it is in my pocket. I will be interested in hearing how your ear plugs work out.

These do not magnify but even slightly muffled ambient noise I could hear a woodpecker behind me 20 or so yds. while I was at the shooting bench. After our deer seasons are over I will get to the range and shoot some more to get a better idea of how I like them.

OMG, I have used hearing protection for a long time. but not when hunting unless it's doves, ducks and stuff where you get a lot of single/double or a "volley" of shots. I certainly changed some things when I went to my 1st KY challenge. When there it's "plugs and muffs" for Bob whenever the line is open. I've been to Quantico, Fort Pickett, A. P. Hill, Oceana and Langley when stuff was happening and never needed more than one sound suppression item, not so at KY challenge. 10

Tried these plugs again today and seemed same as first time out. I don't have any way to tell how much they will save hearing as mine was damaged 45yrs. ago in Grafenwoehr, Germany by artillery firing without active range signage up.My ears haven't stopped ringing since. Some of the guns in Ky. do have similar concussive effects. I need hearing protection that will make me shoot better?! I also need hearing enhancement so I don't miss chow call in the DE kitchen.

I bought a pair of soundgear silver, behind the ear hearing aids that also compress and muffle a gunblast. haven't tried them yet.

I have been using the Walkers Razor behind the neck ear plugs. Comfortable light and effective. Only complaint I have are the plugs themselves. I wish they were a baffle type instead of foam. Foam is a little slower to put in and need to be replaced because they cannot be cleaned.
