First off hello, first post here. Wanted to know if any of you shoot moly on your bullets, I use it exclusively on my CF rifle bullets but didn't know if it would make a difference in my 700ML. I am currently in the process of rebarreling my 700ML to a 45 cal Mcgowan barrel with barrel nut. I have a new 45 cal breech plug (209) on order and a Mcmillan classic stock. I want to shoot sabotless so I guess I will need to get a smooth form die also. I plan on shooting BH209 through this rifle as it is strictly a hunting gun.

So none of you guys have ever tested this out? What about HBN?

This was discussed quite a bit 15-18 years ago. The consensus of opinion was that an overly slick bullet wouldn’t let the bullet obturate adequately. It wouldn’t hurt to try it. If smokeless is allowed for where you live and your rifle is smokeless capable, smokeless would be much more efficient and less expensive.

never used moly or hbn but some of my benchrest buds do- in talking to them they say for the most part it extends the cleaning of the bore/barrell- I like sew doubt it would be beneficial on bullet obturation part /BUT who knows if it might possibly benefit powder fouling in our operations,i will not but would like to see someone try this just to see & report-if it would work in sml, could be on the future line @ KY challenge in use.

Gotcha, the great thing about moly is that it takes about 1 beer to apply it to bullets and then a few down the bore to settle things down and off to the races.....

I used to buy used barrels from guys that they “thought” were shot out. These were guys shooting Moly coated bullets. Id take the barrel and shoot it.. couldnt get moa accuracy out of these barrels... then I would clean it... shoot it... clean it... shoot it and clean it until I was getting the barrel back to sub 1/8 moa... I even beat a guy in a benchrest match out in SoCal using one of his “worn out” barrels that I bought off of him..... haha.. Seriouly.. the moly fouled the heck outta these barrels.. and difficult to remove...
