Well just trying to get this gun ready for my Ohio hunt. I have been using the 310gr from Luke in this gun a while. They do shoot well the Bc is over stated at .420 or so. more like .380bc. I am running these at 2400fps which makes it a pretty good 300 yard gun as long as you take accurate ranges. Comparing this to my 450 BM it does shoot flatter and you could reach out to 500 yards but that's asking a lot. When you compare this to a high performance muzzleloader pushing a 300gr Pittman at 2900fps the muzzleloader really kicks ass.
The 45/70 is a CVA Scout v2 with a brake and has a Burris 4.5x14x42 EF1 scope on it with MOA reticle not a bad scope seems repeatable. Recoil is not to bad considering what the gun weighs. At around $380.00 its a real good buy.

What are you seeing where you hunt? Behind the house I have seen a couple decent 10's and a decent 8. This property is only 26 acres and has not been mowed since a year ago summer. Massive overgrowth of multi-flora and high weeds honeysuckle with just a bit of woods which has same type of undergrowth. Not any kind of long shots afforded. I way try another property which I have not scouted this year about 8 miles east from me, it would have maybe some longer shots. You are going in a good area there have been some real dandys come from that corner of the county. Best wishes and good hunting.

Hey Dennis I see your birthday is in the same month as mine!. Hey maybe we can meet on Sunday in Woodsfield. Sounds like your hunting the same kind of cover we have on some of our hill sides there is no corn or soybeans anywhere around where were hunting just clover and alf. I know we can use bait but that might work better later in the year.
