Personally, I’d try for a lighter build of a 40 if legal and a 45 if not. Bolt action. HIS if primarily hunting. However, those who have used DI can better recommend between the 2 ignition systems.

Thanks for the reply. very informative. very good explanation of the history of spml. I enjoyed reading it. I have been shooting a savage ml 10 for almost 15 years now. a knight inline and a few others before that going back to the mid 70's. I'm ready try out some new technology. I just sold the ml 10, trying to make up my mind between a brake action or a bolt gun. I have always been partial to bolt guns. but I'm retired now, in my 60's, and most of my hunting is from a tree stand. So the brake action might suit my needs more. It would be easier to carry and pull up a tree. and rarely do I have a shot past 150-200 yds. It looks like one could shave off a few lbs with a brake action. Still shopping ideas. having a hard time making up my mind. From the reading I have done, It seems like a lot of guys that shoot brake actions end up building a bolt gun later. decisions, decisions. Look at the latest, carry 40 that Hillbill has built.
