I have been around shooting all my life including 28 y ears on the PD and some 20 years of bench rest competition and have used all types of hearing protection including many of the electronic devices. I currently own two pair of Peltor 6 electronic ear muffs. Well, in last months Shooting Times mag. (the only shoot and bang mag. I get just to keep up with new stuff) I saw this article about the Otis Ear Shields. I was impressed by the article and the low cost of the Ear Shields so I decided to "take the plunge" and buy a pair. Went to the below web-site and placed the order by phone with a very polite young lady. This was on Wednesday......she said they would probably ship by Thurs. or Fri.---------------FedEx Delivered them on Saturday!!! I did get the 31 DB rated ones for $24.95 and a package of four replacement foam ear "thingys" for two bucks and change even though the girs said I would probably not need them as the ones that come with the Shields last a long time (she uses them herself). These are THE most comfortable and light weight hearing protection I have ever used.......AND, they deaden the sound more than any muffs I have owned or used. I brought them to the range last week and was amazed at how well they worked! Herman, Bill and another shooter there also tried them and agreed! This week both Bill and Herman were using the ones they just got and were totally pleased. NO, you will not hear as load as the electronic muffs but you can still make out voices. They do not press in your ears like typical plugs and they do not hit the stock on your gun. You will be amazed at how quiet your gun and your partners guns sound, even with muzzle brakes. I do not have stock in Otis (which has been around for years making cleaning gear for shotgun mainly and rifles) but thought I would pass this on. After using them for two weeks, I am going to put all my ear muff type hearing protectors out at the next garage sale. Seriously, they are that good! www.otistec.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=683F430EA7B64B86BC1508937BC44DB4

Thanks for sharing Richard. I will check those out. I have never been able to wear muffs because they get in the way.

I am with Schunter, I cannot wear the muffs either. Looks like something worth trying, especially at that price. Thanks Richard.

I have Howard Leight sport muffs and.love them all around However they alone are not enough around these muzzle brakes for me. And at times times.they do contact the stock. But I can listen to Lionel Ritchie when I am shooting....DONT LAUGH.....so on Richards report I have 2 sets on the way ...one for each ear...Right? No really I have a son who might like them also shipping is the same for 1 as for 2. No matter what we wear it has to be comfortable and effective...or we wont wear it. Anxious to give them a try! Thank you for sharing Richard Drop

Richard: Good to know, I like the part where you said they do not smack into the stock. That is the problem with most of the over the ear muffs. I do use the silicone inserts specifically made for one's ear but would like to get the others for my daughter.

I can guarantee that you will be amazed at how quiet your rifle sounds compared to your "whatever brand" ear muffs! Herman a Bill just raved about theirs yesterday. You will wonder why you did not have them 20 years ago! No more banging those plastic muffs against the stock trying to get that perfect cheek/weld!

Thanks for the testimonial, Richard. I ordered the 31 decibel rated model. I'll post what I think after getting them to the range. These will be much more comfortable than the ear-muffs I currently use for rifle and pistol shooting and the expanding foam push-in hearing protection I use for trap and sporting clays shooting.

Probably don't want to piss off their distributors?............Yet, I could order by phone and get them?

Probably don't want to piss off their distributors?............Yet, I could order by phone and get them? When they first started, I believe,, products were for military, and law enforcement only, then they began selling thru cabelas and others to hunters and shooters, and yes, now thru phone sales..

Looks like these will catch on. A good option for those that choose to hunt with their brakes on. Should be able to wear them and at the last minute slide them in place.

Somehow, I believe 31 db reduction is better than 26 db reduction............Unless I am missing something?
