We I seem to be never satisfied so I always test different things. the Hornady 285gr bullet does have the highest BC of the group at .829 which is quite a bit higher than the 300gr SMK. I shot the same load of RL33 with the 285gr today at 100 yards. I also changed scope rings from the Burris tactical to the Burris with inserts so I could get the scope down to the bottom at 100 yards that worked out to being only 4moa often the very bottom.
The 285 shot very good at 100 yards but it also had a POA shift to the right compared to the 300gr SMK which does happen when changing different types of bullets. I tried to check velocity with my magneto speed it does not like that big muzzle blast it will make it whip around and throw off your readings. I am going to verify the speed on Sunday with a Lab radar and see what I get because My velocity spread was pretty big I figured I should be getting over 3100fps I had one reading at 3135fps which is possible and then I had one at 3090fps so time will tell other people have reported the same problem when shooting a gun with a lot of muzzle blast it can throw your reading off.
I do believe the Hornady will shoot good it doesn't have the radical VLD nose like the Berger I hope the 285gr bullet shoots well at 1,000 yards I have enough elevation to get past 2,000 yards now.

Well got to test the Hornady 285gr ELDM today using the same load of RL33 I shot (5) with the bullets seated out into the lands and (5) with the bullets seated back -20 I also used Rem brass for this test. The first groups was a (3) together in the center patch and (2) dropping low out of the group by several inches the second group was better with (4) in the center and (1) dropping low out of the group. That is not surprising since I saw problems when I tested at 365yards with the Rem brass it is not as good as the Norma brass. All in all it was still under MOA at 1,000 yards.
I checked the velocity with my buddies Lab Radar and it gave a 3110fps I had one as high as 3135 using the magneto speed so both were close to what I thought I should be getting I also double checked the 300gr SMK with the same load of RL 33it gave 3080fps very close to what I had reported. RL 33 is a very slow powder the fact that the 285gr bullet really didn't go much faster tells me that this powder is actually a hair to slow for the lighter bullet I didn't have any pressure problems so I might bump up the powder charge a little more.
The 300gr SMK took 20MOA to get dead on the Hornady only needed 18.6 MOA that is a big improvement at that distance so I have to good choices for this gun. This gun does have recoil and you really have to do your part to shot good groups its a two hand hold for this baby.
