When I had a 50 I tried full bore briefly with not so good results. I was completely uneducated in that aspect of ml's. Some people have had good results however with Fury, Thor, and even conicals. If you stay at it you may find something satisfactory to your liking. It is much easier to get a 50 to shoot well with a sabot as long as you keep pressures down enough to not blow sabots. JMO

If you want more speed then certainly the sabots are best. However if you go the "traditional" conical route then full bore is very good. However prepare for using "big" bullets like 300 is smallest and go up from there. To get even modest speed prepare for some heavy recoil with the heavy lead. However the heavy 50 bullets are way overkill for whitetails so 300 grain range good. I use Fury 325 grain and Thor 250 grain with excellent results in my "smoker" Omega and Rem700ml. get a try pack to check what size you need. My 50s take 501 and Thor and Fury make them size to fit. this reflects my experience and opinion. Others will differ. 10

A 420gr conical at 1300-1400ish fps dont kick bad at all. It will hammer deer. That should be about 90gr by volume of Triple7 or around 75-80gr of BH209 at most. That is basically the old Trapdoor 45/70 load ballistics in a 50cal.
