Anyone with a CVA 45 muzzy conversion.
I am having my CVA 45 done. my Qs are, do I still use sabots, which bullets, weights , knurled ?
Powder charges for different bullet weights etc.
Any info would really be great.
Thanks Joe

Which CVA? I have an optima elite converted. Which breech plug "H.I.S" or savage? I have savage plug.
What are your goals with gun? Do you have a bullet sizing die? What powders do you have access too?

It is a CVA Apex. Hank is doing the conversion. Powders? , I have access to whole array of powders, which do you recommend for a 300gr scorpion pt. gold, 405 gr cast from Harvester
No resizing die. Goals- Hogs, bison, elk.
Thanks Joe

Well the harvestor gold bullet can work but I wouldn't recommend them or the cast bullets. You'll lead your barrel up in a hurry.
If you can I'd try to get 300 SST or 300mh. Your going to want to get a sizing die from Hank. The apex tends to run a little smaller in diameter than other barrels.
If your going to shoot sabots then you'll be fine.
With 300 grain bullets I'd recommend 3031 with veggie wads. Run around 85 grains to be around 2700fps.
Here is something you need to be concerned about though. The apex can't handle the pressure that the bolt guns can so you'll need to look at pressure traces and stay below 45k.
90 grains shooting a 300 grain bullet is 41k @ 2850fps, another thing to think about is recoil, hope Jeff is adding a muzzle break.
I'd use my information as an idea where to start. I would start light and work up safety is main concern.
I've shot 300 grain bullets with savage plug in my McRem and it will let you know you shot a 300 grain bullet. The apex will beat you for shooting a 300 grainer FYI

A proven load in the Apex is 10/50 SR4759/4198 with the 250 TEZ or 250 FTX. The two Apex conversions I had would take the 250 TEZ without sizing just needed to be knurled up for proper fit. I believe Hank is using a straight 55 grain load of 4198 in his Apex conversions.
I would not recommend the 300 pt. gold for smokeless as there are much better bullets.
