I finally jumped on the AR bandwagon and got my feet wet. It was a struggle, since they have never appealed to me before. I got to shoot a few, and found the platform is very comfortable and friendly. When I realized there was more to them than just burning up a lot of ammo, I started to come around. Doing a little research, I eventually settled on the 6.5 Grendel, so it can be used for deer hunting. I didnt want to spend a bunch of money, so I held out for sales and deals, and a buddy coached me thru the process, and eventually the assembly. I have a grand total of $362 in it, and couldnt be happier. So far with factory ammo, it is printing 2-3" groups at 100yds. All my hunting spots are in woods now, so that would be enough accuracy, but I will eventually handload to improve that. Got a neat looking flash hider. Its spiral cut. Doesnt do anything, but is pretty cool.

Looks good for the $$. AR platforms are good for their intended purpose and are more than capable for most hunting distances. I know in the army we never shot past 300 meters with the M16 and that was with peep sights so you should be good to go. Hand loads will get you a little tighter. Different factory ammo may shoot better also. Nice rifle.

That looks to be Bear Creek Arsenal flash hider. I will be interested in how you like the upper (if it is a BCA). Please keep us updated I’m just getting into AR building also.

Reviews are so so. They say they had employee issues for a time that caused QC problems. Supposed to have been rectified and they are cranking out good stuff now. Has lifetime waranty and a 1 moa guarantee at 100yd using quality match ammo. This makes the 3rd upper I know of bought recently, and all have been spot on so far. I waited and got mine for $229, and $10 to ship. I got the 20" ss heavy barrel. Ordered on Thurs am and on doorstep Mon. Cant beat that!

ARs are kind of like crack, once you get a taste you are hooked.
I have had a Grendel or two in the past but have settled on the 6.8 SPC for one main reason, it does its thing with a short barrel (16") vs at least a 20" in the Grendel, both are good rounds and hammer deer out to 325 or so.
You definitely got in the game cheap enough if accuracy and reliability suit you, if not you can change the barrel out and have what you need. the two main factors for accuracy in the AR platform are a good barrel and trigger, the rest is fluff for the most part.
These days there are a lot of choices for triggers, a decent trigger can be had for around 100 bucks, it makes a huge difference in the usability of the rifle.
AR parts and guns are cheaper and more abundant now than any time I can remember, I hunt with one every year during deer season and while it's not a do all gun it's a great woods gun, my little 6.8 with the stock collapsed is 31" long with a 16" barrel, it's very accurate and flat out hammers deer, yotes and bobcats with a 110 pro hunter, recoil is very low and it shoots less than MOA with the load I use. It's a perfect kids or female gun, adjustable to fit anyone.
You will be happy with the Grendel, you might have to spend a few more dollars to get it the way you want but I doubt you will ever be without one.

My buddy has done about 2 dozen trigger jobs with a JP (?) spring kit and buffing wheel (<$20). He is at 3-4# and feels great to me. I have shot half of the ones he has done.
I do 99% treestand/ground blind hunting. So a compact gun is nice, but not a necessity. This is more of a novelty, and if it works as hoped, may blossom into more in the future.
I appreciate the comments fellas.

Ordered a 300BLK 10.5” upper from BCA. We will see how I like AR pistols. With subsonic ammo I am hopping it will make a good trapping dispatch gun. The lower is complete with a TriggerTech two stage trigger so maybe I’ll find out how accurate the BCA uppers are.
