I was wondering what price range I should be paying for a shoulder mount for the buck I just shot? I got a quote from a local guy my gun shop recommended for $475 but just a few years ago I got one from another guy and it was $350 so I'm not sure about this $475 quote.

$475.00 is a little high.. The $350 price is normal around here and should be about the most you should pay. I'd look around some more and see what you can find..

When it comes to spending money I'm pretty cheap however when it comes to something like a deer mount I want it done right. I wouldn't worry about cost as much as I would about how good the person is. I'd all around and see if you can find one that does a great job and referrals to back it. I work with a guy who is super picky when it comes to his mount and he only used one person, it's a girl but she does great work. If I remember correctly she charges $350-$400 for deer. She did screw up a bobcat she did for him and he was pissed. He quit going to get because of that. I started to go to school for taxidermy but decided that I would rather hunt. One thing I learned is they all prefer to do certain things, fish, deer, and varmint. Look for one that loves to do feet he will spend more time in detail than one who loves to do fish. Good luck!

My last 3 have been $550 each. Plus a $50 tip for accelerated delivery. He never asked or insinuated such. But each time he has had my deer done for the Field and Stream show. When you look at a mount and keep waiting for it to blink.....you know you got a good one. drop

I am in southern NJ. I paid around 700 for the last one I had done. I use Marcus Zimmerman in PA. He also did all my African stuff and Mt. Lion. He is the only person I will use and he turns your stuff around in about 8 months. The 504 mile round trip drive to him does suck, but he is worth it. He runs his shop with his brother and sons. Most others around here are in the 500 to 550 range.

350-450 around here . some chemical tan hides i think and are cheaper but they shrink in few years. and some tan the old school way and they will last longer . cant confirm this but one taxidermist told me.

$475 is the going rate here. I used to sell my bear hide's and galls to this guy www.northlandtaxidermyshop.com/meet-john.html and should have used him but even though he didn't have as much experience I decided to go with the guy my gun shop recommended. They both were the same price but he was much closer.

$350 is about the going rate for them also where I hunt (Roanoke / Martinsville) in VA.. Closer to where I live (VA. BCH. area) I'd imagine it would be in the $450 range, but not sure on that cause I always use the local guys where I hunt.

$450ish and higher for a good mount here in SW Iowa. I don't know how many more whitetail mounts if any I will ever do again. I have been going the Euro mount route and like it. Every couple deer mounts I can buy/build a new gun or do a self hunt somewhere. Of course we all know that doesn't really work in real life as I spend the money first. Feel good thought of the day.

I agree w linebaugh, around here a decent mount starts around 450. The well known taxidermists are in the 550-650 range
