I have a great opportunity to hunt brown bear this spring.. I plan on using my .300 weatherby with 200gr accubonds loaded from pendelton ammo I get exceptional accuracy with them! I have had a few guys question my choice of ammo saying I should use a Barnes ttsx or a swift A frame? I feel like the accubond will do just fine! But figured I would put this up to get some opinions. Thanks

The Accubond is a pretty tough bullet. I think you will be fine.

I found 180gr accubonds pretty fragile in 338RUM when pushed hard. I know you won’t have the speed I did but possibly wanting to break a bear down and still getting deep penetration the Accubond would not be my first choice. I am sure the Accubond will preform wonderfully if everything thing goes right. I try to use equipment that works perfectly when everything goes wrong. I wish you luck on your hunt.
I am just relaying my experience. Hopefully at lower contact velocities they behave better.

a buddy of mine shot a bull elk at 175 yards with a 300wsm 180 accubond. the elk was quartering away, the bullet entered the left hip and exited the right shoulder but didn't make it through the skin. The hip look like a bomb went off in the socket, and off shoulder was torn up. I was standing beside him, or I would not have believed what the hip looked like.
I am a believer in the accubonds.

Have you discussed your choice of projectile with your guide/outfitter? I'd say thats the one person you don't want questioning your ammo. Never been after the big bears, so I can't give an honest opinion about bullet performance. I'm kinda jealous. Brown bears are on the top of my list with some of the big african stuff... Good Luck!

I haven't talked with the guide as we're going to Kamchatka peninsula.. so there Russian and I don't speak any Russian our interpter said that accubonds will do just fine as shots will be within 200yrds and likely alot closer! He said alot of guys have came with 30-06 so a .300 weatherby with a quality bullet will do just fine and as with any hunting shot placement is key.. I just figured I would ask for some opinions

Also if brown bear is on your bucket list like it is mine you should look into Kamchatka peninsula it's almost half the cost of Alaska and flights weren't that much more then going to Alaska

Thanks for the heads up! Keep us informed about how the trip goes! I've been doing some research on this as well. The other option is the eurasian brown bears, but they're smaller like interior grizzlys (and less expensive), than the coastal browns. That would be Croatia/Estonia/western Russia. It won't be an issue for a while. Time constraints and previous commitments will limit this for a few years. Really hope to get it done though. Soon.

How did your hunt go? Hopefully you were able to knock another one off the list...

The hunt went really good.. I didn't pull the trigger although I had alot of chances at decent bears and had 3 good stalks on big bears 2 times we got winded and the 3rd stalk the bear got up and just started walking away and let me tell you there's no catching a bear up the mountain in 6 foot of snow!! I tried.. we seen bears everyday and I passed bears almost everyday waiting for a good one.. it was an amazing experience we went into camp on a helicopter the guides and cook didn't speak English but they were great people and by the end of the hunt I learned some Russian and they learned some English.. we went to red square and drank some vodka with our interpreter and his friends which was also fun, Moscow was amazingly clean down town and the people were very friendly! I would absolutely go back if I had the opportunity

Sounds like you had a great trip! Glad to hear you saw a lot of bears, bummer you weren't able to close the deal on a monster... I guess thats what keeps us coming back for more.
Seeing new country and areas like that are a lot of fun. And drinking vodka in Moscow is definitely something to remember. LOL
