I bought a new browning a5 2 3/4 or 3” magnum only due to the fact that I love the high gloss wood and blued shotguns better than the camo synthetic guns. I do think it is really light weight and it will probably be a little rough on recoil with the 3” mag buckshot that I plan to use in it this fall. Anyway this was an impulse buy for me and although I have always been a browning man with rifles I just have no experience with their shotguns. I have owned over a dozen browning BAR’s from 300 win mag to 270 and never had a problem with any of them. That said anyone have info on the a5 that I might need to know? Tips for care or anything to watch out for? Thanks

I have friends that have them but i have never fired one, they all seem to be high on them so I would think you made a pretty good choice.

I love how it looks and it shoots great with birdshot but I haven’t tried buckshot yet. So far I am very pleased. Especially with the new longer chokes. Holds a great pattern with birdshot. I was just trusting Browning to have done their job on r and d on the working parts.

It has basically the same guts as the Maxis, at least the same basic operating system anyhow. The Winchester SX 2-4 line also use the same basic system.

Being a LOOONg time buckshot shooter, since 1960, shotgun or ML only this part of VA, I suggest you invest in a good aftermarket choke sized for the buckshot you want to shoot. Personally I have the #10 mag auto with a Carlson and it shoots 000 and 00 and large hard shot very good. The 000 is especially tight and can put 12 of 14 000 into a 15" circle at 50 yds, needless to say it has Williams sights on the rib. the 00 pattern some more open. My 12 gauge guns, 3 870 and 1 BPS, wear Patternmaster or Kicks chokes. The Patternmaster shoots 000 very good and as shot size goes down the patterns open with each size, so in open stand areas it's 000 and in very tight cover it's #1 buck with 00 and 0 in between. the Kicks shoots both 000 and 00 the same. My experience and opinion others will be different. 10 ga

Go with the pattern master in my moss berg 835 shooting 3” rem buck shot keep all pellets in a 20” circle. Using a pattern master in my 10 I keep all inside a 18” circle to say they work
