Well today was the day to test this little gun out. I only had some really old Win 296 powder on hand so I use it. The clip for the Ruger rifle holds 3 but it also lets you seat the bullet way out here is the catch the Barnes bullets are .4509 and with this bullet you can move the seating depth out a bunch. Max seating with a 250 Hornady is 2.260 with the Barnes you can seat out to 2.450 which greatly increases your powder capacity and also reduces pressure at the same time increasing velocity because of less bullet drag.
I shot the 250gr FTX first and I was amazed how accurate this gun is right out of the box . I am using a old Tasco 3x9x40 World class scope for testing mainly because it has always held up under recoil. The recoil on this little rifle is mild and the muzzle blast even with 296 ball powder was not bad which surprised me. The big draw back to shooting good groups is the very thin forend on the stock it is not intended to be a bench gun but it certainly will shot 3 shots under 1 inch if you do your part. The Barnes out shot the Hornady even though they are smaller in diameter. So I took some 250gr FTX bullets and resized them to .4509 and that let me seat them out to 2.375 which will also let me put quite a bit more powder in the case so that will be my next test so what kind of velocity and accuracy from heavier loads a Barnes 250gr Boat tail at 2350fps from a 16" carbine barrel would be awesome.
