I have been on the fence for awhile about purchasing a handgun, but during the holidays I ran into a very good condition Glock 22,.40..At a pawn shop and decided that would be my first gun. I am looking for suggestions on ammo I should buy ,upgrades , anything I can learn about this gun in general...TIA guys...

I have a handful of Glocks including the model 22. They are ready to go out of the box. Some of the mods I do include grip tape and trigger jobs. I like the Talon Grip tape the best. I have both the sandpaper grips and the rubber. Depending on the use of the gun determines which version I use. For a carry gun, I like the rubber grips the best. For range gun or non CCW carry, I like the sandpaper grips. As for the trigger, I use the NY sear for a carry gun. I like the Ghost connecters the best. When they are hand fitted it is a great trigger job. I have also done the 25 cent trigger job and it works pretty well. It does not reduce the travel or weight but makes the pull smoother. There is a lot of info on liability of trigger jobs on a carry gun on the web.
The sights are definitely usable out of the box. I run a silencer on some of mine and have changed the sights out to high sights to see over the can. Night sights are a nice upgrade.
The best thing you can do is get a case of ammo and start getting used to the gun. Trigger time will do more for you than upgrades will. I don't have a favored load as most will shoot better than I can. Just keep shooting and your groups will shrink. For practice I shoot 180 gr FMJ ammo. For carry I use anything using bullets like the STP, Gold Dot, HST, Golden Saber, etc. As a defensive round (against 2 legged predators) distances are typically measured in feet not yards.

I second the Ghost trigger connector, I put one in my SR9 Ruger which is a glock design, it reduced the trigger pull to 3.5lbs. Ghost Inc. is out of Miami Fla. and has excellent customer service.

That is a good cartridge. Practice with it will help as indicated.

Lots of good info. Had a glock 22 for a little while before one of my brothers wouldn't take no for an answer... LOL
You'll probably have the best luck with 180 gr bullets. Didn't have much luck with the lighter stuff. Stick with the 180s. JMHO
You'll get a lot of good use out of this one...
