Finished inletting my stock this afternoon, and I am already for bedding. I have bedding a few stocks with devcon in the past and really like the results. I was looking at using Marine tex this time. I have had an issue with the devcon white hardner drying up before I could use it all. How long with the marine tex last before drying up in the can? I am going to do this stock, and it would probably be 6 months before I do my next stock. Thanks for any input.

Devon all the way... Store your opened can in the refrigerator and it will not dry out as fast.

Devon all the way... Store your opened can in the refrigerator and it will not dry out as fast. My last purchase of Devcon lasted just 6 months due to the hardener going bad. It was stored in a cool basement, and yes, the lid was sealed. Now I have almost the full amount of putty with no way to harden it. I read a couple weeks ago that Devcon had a bad batch of hardener which went bad way too fast. Have you heard anything about it? Is there another hardener out there which will work with the Devcon putty?

If they had a bad batch of hardner, if you contact them about it they just might send you a new one. Never hurts to ask.

That's what I would do.. Call them and see if they will send you a free replacement... When you buy the Devcon the date it was packaged, is on the box, look and see how old it is. I got some at Grainger once and it was four years old when I bought it. It was kinda dried out but it mixed up ok and I was able to use it. Now I buy my Devcon from MSC and it is always a fresh batch, they must sell a lot of it.... If you do run into a batch being kinda dried out or if its cold you can add a little heat with a heat gun and this will help you mix it up, just be careful not to get it to hot as this speeds up the working time you have with it...

Does anyone know if they make the Devcon in a smaller size? All I can find is a 1 LB. size and that would be nothing but a waste for me.
