Well guys,,, sometimes things just don't work out as planned.. Five months ago I ordered a bolt body from Bat machine, makers of the finest bolt actions in the world, after the long wait the bolt finally arrived yesterday,. Even though I'm still a month or so out on starting this build I wanted to check out the fine work that I new was in the box. I opened the box only to find the bolt without an extractor. So I called Bruce at Bat machine and told him my bolt don't have an extractor and was sending it back for them to install one for me.. Bruce apologized and said he don't know how that could have even been possible to get out of the shop that way but that he would get the guys on it as soon as he got the bolt back.. He offered to pay shipping but I just asked him to take care of getting the extractor installed and return the bolt ASAP, as this gun is on the hit list along with several others..
Now I'm not mad or even upset about this mid-hap, these things happen and you can expect them from time to time,, but it's things like this that put us builders behind schedule.. I try to give a good honest lead time on a custom build and most of the time I can hit the targeted due date pretty close, but a couple of these mis-haps add up to lost time in the shop, so now instead of being able to build the rifle that was going to be built at this time I will choose the next hottest build that I have all the parts for.. Then when the Bat bolt comes back I'll work that build in as soon as possible.
I order the custom parts and then try to give a good estimated delivery date., some parts take longer than was expected so therefor pushing the delivery time farther out than estimated.
Bat machine builds the best actions available and if you want one you just gonna have to wait, and even they make a mistake once in awhile..
The bolt is a piece of art along with the rest of the action,, here is a picture of the bolt without the extractor, soon to have an extractor in it and set up as a multi caliber switch barrel rifle..
