Sunny clear and 55* at 7:00 this morning…….warming up as the morning progressed along with the mirage! No turkeys or deer today? To foul the barrel I shot some 225 FTX’s full formed with an 8/60 Clays/H-4198 duplex. Here is the interesting part of this group/load: Note the first two shots and where they land …………….then the last two and where they land? Note also the third shot and its lower velocity—along with being “somewhat” out of the group? What happened was when I loaded it, I got that situation where the ram rod popped back up when seating? In other words, I forgot to open the bolt and the spent primer was not allowing the pressure of seating to bleed off. Consequently, it caused the duplex powders to MIX! Thus creating a degraded load and subsequent lower velocity. You can see shots 1, 2, 4 and 5 gave a 10 fps ES. Shot #3 was around 46 fps slower. For group Two, I pushed the 300 SST with a 10/60 duplex which put the first three of four in .526 with #4 opening it to .9! The 290 TEZ 12/58 Clays/4198 was next with the base machined flat across for possibly better sealing??? Did not see any real improvement over other groups I shot with the same bullet un cut? Next I took the 290 TEZ smooth sized (same duplex) out to 300. Based on the very low ES, I would have expected or hoped the group was somewhat better than it was? The first three were not bad but 4 & 5 opened it up to 4”. The 250 TEZ was next with the 10/60 duplex. It had a low ES of 12 fps and the five shot group was not bad either………….three were much better! So, my only and last 275 BE’s smooth sized with a 7/65 duplex of 4759 under H-4198. The ES was not as low as the Clays duplex but the group was: THE GROUP I NEEDED IN KENTUCKY!..................Still not as small as that bug hole Kyle shot on Friday night but still right up there with the .40 crowd on Doug’s! For the last group I intended to use the same duplex with the 300 gr. BE however I inadvertently pulled the 10/60 duplex loads out! Now just so everyone knows, ALL the loads I bring to the range are safe with all my bullets………..for 200 to 300 gr.. I will shoot this one again with the 4759 duplex. It did not do bad but again, not what I was looking for. post a picture upload gif from url

Your rifle seems to like the 300 SST for sure. Great report! I found an old report of mine where 3031 as a main charge showed a 2" group at 330 yards? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I might need to work with mine a little more to get the 300/SST to work. I would like to use them for muley just a little more knock down. Great shooting my friend!

It is nice to be able to post stuff without some sly comments and having to defend myself. I appreciate the positive comments. I am starting to get more comfortable with the weird reticule in the 8 x 32 NF scope. This clicking up and down to change yardages seems strange to me. I am more used to selecting a different dot or stadia line but the NF is really accurate in that respect. I was hoping the 275 BE's would not shoot so well.................Now I have to go and buy some more ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) Maybe I can get a load that will make the 250 or the 290 TEZ's a bit more consistent?

Richard, your nerves likely got the best of you at the shoot. You need to get involved in competitive shooting to get used to the pressure of a big event like this guy. www.6mmbr.com/gunweek050.html ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) Just kidding!

You still got that post eh, Greg? You know, some days the gun just seems to want to shoot bug holes and other days, whether the nut behind the butt, the particular load or whatever, does not? I thought Hank would have been the guy to beat in Kentucky but he was honest and said: "This load is just not shooting today?" I am sure everyone has had those "scratch your head days!" Hey, we had 28 guys together for a great weekend shooting and BS'ing and Kyle won the nice custom rifle from "Hankin's Rifles" Hope your enjoying it Kyle! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I will be prepping for the next one! What?..........no rifle?...........only 20 Parker bullets? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Richard, We act like men here and your posts and anyone else's civilized posts are always welcome here! I wish I had more time than I do to shoot. If I did I would invite myself over and shoot with you and Herman. I used the micro adjust screw on the front rest the other day. Thank you for being a valued contributor to Hanks Message Board!!!
