Back to Clays……………..
So…………..Last week I shot but the results were so poor I did not put anything on the forum. My results were so confusing that I was having a hard time deciphering my notes and nothing made much sense! Duplexes with N-110 and straight charges were giving such poor results; velocities were helter skelter and ES’s large with poor groups at not only 100 but 300 yards. I only salvaged one decent (not great) 100 yard group and that was with XTP’s.
Fast forward to this week when things turned around……….why? I went back to shooting my Clays duplexes. I had gotten a new BP from Hank and some of his nichol/boron (I think that is what they are called?) modules. I also added a .026” 3/8” long bushing on top of Hank’s .035. Well let me tell you, it was like night and day. The groups at 100 and three hundred both tightened up nicely. The 300 AccuMax which did not want to shoot at 300 grouped pretty nice.
If this had not worked out I was prepared to shoot my 700ML 209 gun which I brought with me and in fact, did shoot it. I used the exact same load as I had used at the Challenge last summer………….6/65.8 of Clays and H-4198. This gun also has one of the .026” bushings and I use Win. 209 primers. Mind you, I have not shot this gun since the beginning of November 2016. After one fouler, it put three XTP’s in .672” with an average velocity of 2771 fps and a 7 fps ES. I then fired one 300 AccuMax after a scope adjustment (same load) and took it out to 300 yards with the same 4 MOA I added for the Challenge and you can see the results. Note: I was having to knurl bullets previously sized for the 700 CF Brux as it is about .0004” smaller than the 209 Brux. If the CF gun still eats these hard modules, I may have to use the 209 gun for Kentucky. A direct ignition may be installed as I have been in contact with both Hank and Hammer. Time will tell which route I go. I prefer the HIS with the modules but will go to direct if need be.
