Using a friends sizing die he got from Hankins Rifles. When I use it in my older RCBS press I can't put bullet in die with out removing the push rod. In full stroke I have .325'' of push rod sticking out the top. So when I get my own die can I shorten the push rod or different press or Swinglock brand? Thanks

Never heard of anyone having that problem I have a hornady press though!! If I shortened it I would have it done by a machine shop or someone that can cut it perfectly you don't want that bullet entering that die crooked!!

Back the sizing die out of the press some. This is common practice with longer bullets.

It works perfectly in my RCBS Rock Chucker Press. Just listen to Kyle!

Tried that and it works ok but still very tight getting bullet in in order to push bullet threw. My press is a older RCBS JR3 I think. When I get my own die I think I will shorten push rod. I have buddy that can face the push rod.

I would invest in a stronger/larger press like the RCBS Rock Chucker. It is likely much beefier and has a longer stroke than yours. Some bullets are harder to size than others and a weak/small press can fail under that strain.

I experienced the same problem with my 1965 era RCBS press, didn't have enough distance between ram face and sizing die. Ended up buying a new RCBS Rockchucker press, plenty of distance now so I don't have to back out the die for each bullet sized.

Same thing with me. One of the companys make a 1/4 inch spacer that Threads on die first and then screw in press. That will cure it. Cost about ten bucks.

there are lock rings for dies that would work well for this application as well.

Just let me know when you order your die that you need a 3/8" shorter push rod and I'll face it off for you before I ship it. Solves your problem,, free of charge.

Thanks all. Went to Cat and got two 7/8" flat washers. Cat washers are pretty true so they fit nice and flat. That way if I ever upgrade press I will be good to go. How do the Barnes 290gr TMZ go threw the die? Solid copper work or not?
