When your looking for the right load when your setting up for competition shooting do you test several different powders and bullets? I recently found a great load for my 243 but can't find any more IMR 4350 and I'm running out. So I switched to Varget and Hybrid 100v to test. Varget showed a little promise but I have 2 ladder test set for 100v and Hornady 105 Amax and Berger 95 VLD Target.
Just wondering if you try several different loads to get your gun where it needs to be for competition?

Definitely! But then we also rely on what other competitors are using to get us in the ballpark. Re15 might be another good one to try along with 4895. Berger makes a 88gr. LD flat base that should do very well for you. www.bergerbullets.com/products/varmint-bullets/

adding to Richard's good advice. talk to serious veteran reloaders/shooters. they don't like wasting much time finding a load which is how I try to operate.
*match a bullet to barrel twist rate & match the powder to the bullet weight.*
when I am looking for a new load I talk to people in the know, supplement that with quickload(for estimates) & very often take a look at what the pros on accurate shooter are using.

there are always other successful options but this will cut to the chase in a hurray for what you are looking for.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, I've been trying to do as much research as I can on reloading my 243 as I can. Recently bought a Hornady Reloading Manual as well for more info. The local shops are out of 4350 and I'd rather not spend the extra money paying for hazmat fees so figured I'd try a different powder. I had Varget on hand but purchased Hybrid 100v because it seemed like I'd read a lot of good reviews on it, which I had but didn't realize it wasn't as temp stable as H1000. Either way from the recent info Deadeye shared I think Hybrid 100v should be a good replacement. There still isn't a lot of info out there on it but it's between 4350 and 4831 on burn rate chart.
After recent research I've done, I believe I'll stick with the 95 Berger VLD Target bullets for my competition endeavors. I need to start figuring out my drops and velocities soon.
Always researching and asking for more advice. I'll probably give you a call soon Richard to ask a few questions.
Thanks again for the help guys.

Rat IF Varget will shoot well it is one of the most temp stable powders out there.

H1000 is way too slow for the .243!

Try IMR4451 if you can find it, it is just like IMR4350 but is temperature stable.A lot of guys are going to it because H4350 is hard to find anywhere. I have also had a good shooting load with H4831SC and 105 gr bullets in my 243.
