Hey guys, new to this forum, been on the others for a while. I have a McRem 40 cal that I'm intetested in trying the Hidgdon CFE-223 powder in. Hoping for a clean burn & increased velocity. I've played with duplex loads that work fine but I'd like to find a straight load that works in all temps without a bug velocity change due to temps. I havent gotten acceptable speed with 322 yet. 3031 does work well as far as ignition goes. I've also played with 4895 successfully.
So, can anyone give me quickloads information for this powder in my 40 using 200 -240 grain Bullets? I use the CEB 240 for hunting & a lot of SST 200 for play time 😊
Any powder info or thoughts would also be appreciated.
Thanks, Greg

I run that powder in my 223 and like it BUT if my memory is correct it is a ball powder? Either that or small stick powder? I know it meters decent through my dillon so it has to be one of the two.
At any rate I bring this up because ot will probably not be suitable for muzzy use as it will fall through the bushing/vent hole.
I could be wrong on the above as my memory aint what it once was. If I am wrong I apologize.

Not at all saying that it can't /won't happen though. I have a front sealing bushing style breech plug with a .032 bushing if that helps at all Thanks, Greg

Imo 40. cal sml should be shot with known loads and powders before we just try something out and see what happens... Scat is set up for pressure tracing in the .40 ,so request him to check a few loads out and send him some supplies to do so.....Before you do something that hurts you ,have some research done as you are requesting with QL......

I would guess CFE-223 would be way fast in a .40 but I don't know that for sure without looking at numbers, It has been used successfully in the .45s and seems to work pretty well but the .40 is a different animal.

It is a very fine ball powder.........just opened a can I have. It is in the same burn rate I believe as Varget. You might use it with maybe a few grains of N-110 or even a few grains of 4198 just to act as a "blocker" to keep the CFE out of the bushing hole. I have used H335 (which is ball powder) but always with a booster under it to prevent it migrating into the vent hole.
