I sent Jeff a H&R 45-70 barrel to convert to H.I.S system last week. Was on my way to town as I came out of my lane I saw the Mail man coming so I waited for him, he had a package for me. It was my barrel and my new corded ramrod and primer holders. Thanks so much for the quick turn a round. I should have a lot of good times at my back yard range. Jim Creamer Russellville ,Oh

I love my converted h&r. Once i found a bullet that agrees with the gun, it shoots great. Mine holds the 209 primers and yes they do leak by when i clean it and theres carbon residue. Next gun i get will hopefully hace the HIS primer modules and no worry about leakage.

Sounds like you had the same HIS 209 plug installed that I did in my apex, I use winchester 209 and there is very little sign of leaking on mine.

Dulan............. By far, the Win. 209 is the best, most concentric primer of all I have tried, and that's a lot. It definitely seals the best. NOT as hot as others but if it ignites your charge reliably, who cares? Give them a try if you have not. You didn't mention what size hole in your bushing? Too large a hole and more pressure comes back to the primer. I would think a .030" would be where you want to be? A .035" might be letting too much pressure back. Save the large hole bushings for the HIS ignition with large amounts of slow powders!

Im using the federal 209a primers. And i had an issue with powder falling through the bushing shooting h4198 and pulled the plug out and seen it was split into 3 pieces so i took it out and put a .030 bushing in and solved that problem and then the primers were real tight to put in and took pliers to take them out so i took fine emory cloth to open the hole up and now the primers fit perfect and come out by hand after the shot. Possible that i could have opened it to much but its way more enjoyable to shoot. My next step is to get a bolt action conversion but havent done enough homework yet to kno where to even begin or wat to get
