List details of the gun you are going to use this in with the action, ignition and barrel diameter of the breech and muzzle. These factors come into play.

70gr 4198 and a 325gr FTX topped out at around 2400fps at 38kpsi in a Savage with Fed209As. I would say thats max because sabot stability could be a problem. Personally i wouldnt go that high.
63-64gr would be a starting load in a OEM Savage but i really cant say how reliable it would be. Using a good tight sabot it "should" be reliable but it wont be any speed demon either. The Harvester Black Crushrib will be tighter than the MMP Orange and handle the load a bit better.

Powderfinger, When I had my ML-II I shot Re-7 65-68 grains with a black MMP sabot with 250 grain bullets Was very accurate and no ignition problems in extreme cold weather

I think.you will be more reliably served with 63 to 65 gr of Reloder 7. Use a harvester black crush rib or orange MMP sabot depending on fit. I haven't seen an ml2 that didn't like this combo.

A different combo but I think tar12 shot a bunch of 300 grain Barnes Originals with the orange sabots and N120. You might contact him.

You might contact him. .50cal-some used orange sabots I found better luck with the black crush rib sabot. every gun we set up liked n120/ 59-61gns & got to the 300yd line with a 1.25moa avg.
IIRC some H4198 at 65- 67gns worked for many. H4198 & I4198 are very close so I4198 should work also.

N120 is a great powder for a 300gr bullet. 2300fps is very doable and reliable. You probably wont get a heckuva a lot more speed out it though. IIRC a 275gr bullet can get to around 2400fps with N120 but a 300gr maxes out in the lower 2300s.
I seem to remember RB recommending H322 and maybe 10x for the really big boomers. Both need 70gr+ of powder to get started. A lot of this info is sorta lost when Dougs board moved to the new forum software. Its basically "unsearchable" now and difficult for me to find.

all this helps of course. barnes 300 original are in short supply. seem to be a great load for game larger than deer. the ftx 325 and the the RL7 shoot good so far. first 2 shots touch. the 3rd is a flyer. 4-5 inches from the 1st 2 shots. i'm allowing ample time to cool as well. have 4198 on hand and want try in naturally. whitetail load is all in interested in currently. the harvester red and black .458 sabots do the trick. the red fro the harverter 300 .452" bullet. will try 300 grain XTP's. have oranges mmps to test now as well. w/ the .503 bore I anticipate the harvesters will remain my best performers. but who knows.....the laws of physics will rule the day at the range......

Have a blue 50 and SS 50 and they both like .458 bullets but the blue likes the orange sabots and the SS likes the BCR sabots. Used Re7 this season with no shots on "meat" as my 4759 is scarce I'll give go ahead to Re7 as it's a double base powder. My 50s like most any .458 bullets and I personally like the Speer 300 grain. The .458 bullets give better accuracy than .451-2 bullets. JMNO and experience! Others may vary. 10
