So not a whole lot from my end unless you want to see what did not work for me? First of all, the weather was clear at 45* with no wind. Starting out with a clean barrel and not using any wads today. Here is an interesting note and you will see the results: This is a HIS ignition Rem. 700. Inside Hanks plug I have two bushings………Hank’s original ¼” long with a burned out .035 hole. In front of that is a 3/8” long bushing with a .026” hole and then the retaining screw. You might ask why? And it gets complicated! All shooting is done at 100 yards with a Burris 4 – 14 Short mag scope with the Burris plex reticle. (BTW, my Sightron came back yesterday and will have it on the rifle for next week) (also, Leupold MK IV 16X which was sent out for flecks inside also came back yesterday! It was just like Christmas! ) The first group was shot using the 230 gr. HAP (Hornady Action Pistol) and a 5/66 Clays/H4198 duplex. Velcoity 2891 ES 19. Four shot group .985” (first shot was the fouler which got no reading on the chrono). Group 2 I used the 300 XTP with the 5/66 duplex. Velocity at 2731 with ES at 23 fps. Three shot group .387 with all five in 1”. If not for shot #2, the ES would have been 10 fps. Group 3 I used the same bullet with a 5/67 duplex. Here velocity was 2740 with a 20 fps ES. Shots 1 – 4 = a 6fps ES. Here 3 shot = .274” and 5=.537” The fourth group used the 250 SST with 5/67 duplex. Here, the velocity was kind of erratic giving an average of 2837 but a high 55 fps ES. Seems like a pressure thing? Maybe more booster for the lighter bullet? Still, 3=.635 and all 5=1.192” So, here is the kicker…………….I wanted to try using both N-110 and also 4759 for boosters along with 4198. I loaded a 7/67……..N-110/H4198 load with a 300 XTP and got NO ignition? The bullet moved about ½”. Re seated and re primed and again got no fire. I know this is due to the length of the flame traveling thru 5/8” of bushings and the small .026” hole. So, my dilemma is do I go with a large bushing hole with Hank’s short bushing and shoot straight powders (because duplex loads want to burn his bushing out PDQ) or stick with my duplex loads which are very accurate and stick with my set up? So far, I have not really seen single powder loads that are more accurate than what I am shooting?.............There have been equals but on any given day, one will outshoot the other and vice versa.

Interesting about the dup that didn't want to ignite. Looking forward to that sightron's second chance. Please treat it nice.... LOL

Richard I know you love duplexing. Please do not take this negative in any way . I'm just curious if you have single loads that are as accurate as your duplexes then why not just shoot single loads ? I have know idea how to do a pole but I would really be curious as to who all duplexes and who shoots singles. I have no idea what the ratio would be ? Regardless I love your reports and thank you for taking the time . I always seem to learn something from your reports .

good report Richard!
straight vs duplex is a very interesting topic, obviously everyone uses what works for them, Richard has proven that duplex works very well, anyone that comes to the shoots will testify to that as he has been among the top finishers when he shows.
just a matter of preference as to what one pours in but I appreciate the fact that he is blatently honest in his reports...

Good shooting like always Richard, and I'm going to say shoot what works best for you. When you find a load that just don't shoot them mark that one off the list and look for another.

Nice report Richard. Keep shooting the duplex and don't worry about the straight loads. I shoot duplex in two guns and straight in two guns. Not much difference to me I like them both.

Thanks guys........... The thing is, if I only shot the same single load it would get boring for me? You watch, next week its back to the TRIPLEX! I am thinking about 5 gr. of Clays, then 30 gr. of H-4198 and top it off with 40 gr. of 3031. Depending on what type of accuracy and velocity I get, it could be tweaked or..........just thrown in the basket? My thought is this: The Clays I know will ignite and in turn light the 4198 which will then light up the slow 3031 powder. People tend to worry about the danger in doing stuff like this but when you think about it (logically), there is nothing dangerous at all? People here are shooting 95 gr. of 3031 as a single with a 300 gr. bullet already? My projected load will only be 75 gr. total weight. I have already shot 8 gr. of Clays with 66 gr. of H4198 which is 74 gr. total weight with two faster powders so adding 40 gr. of a really slow powder to the 30 gr. is of 4198 should be relatively mild? It should produce a nice progressive burn? The thing is, if you don't try this S_ _ t, you will not know? Some people like to experiment and others just use what most everybody else does. (and there is nothing wrong with that) But....just think about all the technology we have today and why? People experimenting! This is what make the muzzle loader so much fun for me. I like to think that the groups posted are not about Richard's shooting, but more about what specific load combinations are capable of.

Richard. I used to wonder why you did what you did, and we even had words about it a time or two in the past, but now I understand why you do what you do. I understand that for you shooting is more than just punching a 1/2 group every time at 100 yards. That would get boring week in and week out. In a way you are in competition with yourself, experimenting with different loads just to see how good or bad they will shoot. We all have learned a great deal from what you do and we appreciate your hard work and dedication. Keep up the good work.

Each stage wil continue the acceleration down the barrel distibuting the pressure down the barrel as the previous powder burns out and loses momentum. This will be very iteresting to hear about. Drop

Richard I didn't think it had been that long since you came up with the triplex loads.I found one of my targets and it has the date of 2/22/11.Sure was a good one. this is with the 200sst and sabots.

Thanks Hank! That was an excellent group considering a 200 gr. bullet with a sabot and at 300 yards! We are happy today to shoot 1.5" sabot less with custom bullets in a .45!

It was shot with pac-nor 45 cal barrel,on savage action and used a smooth blue sabot. Just had to try the tri-plex load because it did well for Richard.
