I have been contemplating what barrel to use on my Apex project and today I ordered one.
Rock Creek 13.2 twist 8-R profile 1.150 for 6" straight taper to .800 @ 28",it will have 6 flutes, will be wearing a brake to help the ole shoulder.
I think I can get the 1.150 to fit with a little work, it will have a HIS Apex plug, plans are to tig the SS pic rail to the barrel along with barrel nuts for the forearm welded in place, it will take some work and it might flop but we never know til we try do we??
will 13.2 be too fast?? time will tell, hope to have it up and running for the spring shoot..

That is awesome. Finally someone tig'ing that scope rail. I was also wondering if a solder job would hold the rail?

If you want it, my buddy does the laser micro welding.

If you want it, my buddy does the laser micro welding. When I worked in the air bag inflator manufacturing business, most of the structural welds were laser welds. We had some pretty big lasers that were over 2000 watts. Of course they were automated with servos controlling movement. The cool thing is that most of the time, with good part fit up, no filler material is required.

I may be wrong but I bet hillbill is robbing one off a stock barrel. CVA wouldn't sale me one when I checked on it a while back.

I think in an earlier post he said he had a machinist friend making the barrel lug. Still would be nice if someone would start making barrels since cva isn't going to.

I scavenged this lug from another barrel but I suppose they could be made easy enough but doing one or two would be very time comsuming. I'm just trying this one because Kyle has committed to doing bullets that will have a decent BC.
we will see how it comes out and if it shoot's well?
I could see a 300 grain .40 bullet in the future that would be a long range killer?

they have some .408 bullets now in rather heavy weights with good BC but I think .6 in a .40 in that weight range would be very difficult, hopefully I am wrong. Kyle might do some heavies in that weight range, we will see.

The problem with making CVA Apex barrels for a manufacture is,,,, Their really are not that many Apex's out there. Now that CVA has stopped production of the APEX I doubt you will ever see any manufacture take on the project of offering barrels, unless it is CVA bringing them back in short production runs. For any other manufacture to set up tooling and machines to produce the lugs and barrels, then fit them up and make a finished barrel would take very high quantities to make it profitable for them. This can be done by a few individuals with the skills in manufacturing, but a one off barrel is very time consuming, and time cost money, so when the barrel is done the price for it would be very high and most people would not pay that much for the barrel. A few people would, but the majority would not. The Encore frame is a different story, there are literally 100's of 1000's of those and they are still in production.
