Looking at scopes for 700 SML. This will be my first scope (rest BDC or Balsticplex) that I will dial for adjustment so wanting to train my brain on the easiest one. Read on Vortex they advise to do the MRAD? Also want to use Mil dots for backup rangeing. Cheap Laser rangefinder doesn't seem to work in rain, fog, snow or when you forget it in the Jeep.

Get a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NF would be at the top of my list barring financial difficulty? There are many others out there but even those have experienced problems from time to time. I am working on a Sightron 8x32x56 that has excellent click adjustments but it is on its second time back to the company. Once for a bit of dirt internally that moved around and the second time for the reticle being loose or something? Warranty and service is good but I am still out of a scope. Yet, I have an old Burris "sort mag" 4 x 14 with AO and stadia lines that has been around for literally thousands of ML shots and it is now back on my present HIS until the Sightron gets back. You never know? I also have a Leupold MK IV 16X that is bullet proof and has several thousand shots on it. Many members here will give good reports on various scopes and yet others will give a negative? If I had to bet the FARM...........I would pick NF! You can get a decent SHV for under $1200 in 4 x 14 which is all the scope anyone needs for hunting or "decent" target work. You may have to adjust your target you use to fit the scope reticle.

I don't favor bdc or ballistplex or even ballistic mildot.
I like moa 1 or 2 with .25 moa dialing but you might want illuminated since cross extensions are usually thin if going this route.....approx. .25 moa per click
I also like just plain mildot with 1/10 mil dialing.............................................................................................................................. .36moa per click.
since you are going to dial get what best fits your need with a reticle you prefer as back up.
what can get confusing is .25 moa dialing with mildot reticle--get a scope that has same in measurement in both areas.
