What trigger weight do you like for hunting past 250 yards?

Trigger pull weight is individual preference, ask a hunter/bench shooter and you will likely get an answer like 1 1/2 - 2 lbs, someone who strictly hunts would likely say 3-4 lbs. I find that the more bench shooting i do the lighter my pull weight ends up on my hunting rigs, personally I like 1 1/2 -2 lbs on my hunting rigs and back them off for bench work, keep in mind that pull weight would be dangerous for a LOT people. most guys would be satisfied with a good crisp 3 lb trigger in a hunting rig.

1 1/2 for long range hunting/bench gun. Pure hunting gun 2 1/2.

I like my Calvin Elite in my Remington 700ml it is at 8oz. and used it for hunting. My Rifle Basix in my Savage 45 is set with the weight very low for most shooting but I will turn it up around 1 to 1-1/2 pounds for hunting.

Now my daughters and I hunt out of a fixed permanent stand so we like 1.5 to 2 pounds. That would be light for most people. Some people call mine "hair" triggers but we just think they are good for our needs.

2 lbs. seem to be ideal for my hunting rigs but this may be to light for some and not light enough for others. What ever weight you decide to go with a lot of trigger time will always help you get familiar and comfortable with your trigger pull. Good luck and be safe!

I don't bench shoot a lot but I like my hunting rifles as close to 2lbs. as possible. That is what I am comfortable with.

Heavy enough so the gun won't discharge if dropped.

2-1/4# is where mine are set up. Most of my hunting is in below freezing conditions..

2 lbs is about right. I have a few that are lighter than that but wouldn't feel comfortable with someone else using them.

Gloves are the deciding factor for me. My light weight 308 walking/stalking gun is three pounds, but most likely I will have a glove on when I need to shoot it in a quick response to deer movement. If that trigger was set at 1 pound like on my bench hunting guns I wouldn't even get my finger in the trigger guard without setting it off.... So it depends on what type of hunting I plan on doing. If you set your trigger anything less than 2 pounds you should plan on hunting with out a glove on or at least make sure you can get it off before needing to pull the trigger. We all have our preferences so what ever you feel comfortable and safe with.
For long range shooting (past 250 yards) I would be set up on a bench with about a 1 pound trigger....

2 pounds for me is about right. I want shoot with a glove on, just because I can't feel the trigger like I like to.

I think all of the above comments are in the ball park! Mainly it depends on the individual AND the type of conditions the gun will be used for.

Hey guys....Thanks for ALL the comments. I usually like my hunting triggers around 2-1/4 pounds and 1.5 pounds for casual target shooting. Seeing the amazing accuracy that some of you are achieving led me to believe that you must be using lighter triggers. When I grow up, I wanna shoot like some of you do. I'm not a youngster, so I gotta do while I'm still in the process of getting older.

When it comes to the hunting and shooting sports I believe we all want to do the best we possibly can with what we have and though we must grow old we should remain young in the mind, always learning. So in that regard I'm doing my best to never grow up.

Years ago, I did a trigger job on one of my Encores, down to one pound. After zeroing the scope, one lucky crow was my first target, BEFORE getting used to that pull. Yep, it went off before I was ready. Later, I got used to that pull and love it on that rifle. Like what was said before, get used to whatever pull weight you decide on prior to hunting!
