Hello guys, deer season is over here in Va. and I have been cleaning up some guns. I use a encore for my treestand hunting. This encore has a Bergara .45-70 barrel that has a HIS conversion. In order to pull the bp, you must first remove the barrel to be able to get the extractor out.[the extractor won't let the come out] All this is a pain in the butt. TC got around this by a optional extractor, that the upper part pivoted out of the way, alouding the bp to be removed. This type of extractor is much more user friendly. Can anyone here make one that would work on a Bargara encore barrel? I'm sure that there are a lot more people like me that would purchase one. thanks , LEFTYML

I talked to Jeff about this very issue a couple of months ago and he said he thinks he can machine one of the tilt over type extractors down to work with the 45-70 module but I haven't sent him an extractor yet. He will probably respond.

Doesn't TC already produce the extractor upgrade that tilts out of the way. It was standard on the pro hunter, but I added one to an older Encore and I believe it was red in color but will look 👀

Yes but that's for a 209 primer not a 45-70 primer module. 2 different sizes..

It is possible to machine it to fit the 45/70. Just don't know if the little pivot pin can handle the stress of popping the module out.

When I had my Encore Muzzleloader the first thing I did was remove the extractor and throw in a box of muzzleloader parts. I t was better to me without it.

Thanks guys for the replys. Hank,as you probably know, the bargara and tc extractors are not exactly the same. Bargara uses a roll pin to hold it in.Don't need it anyway,it can't come out. The optional tc will fit in the bargara,I think I had to file the length down to get it it to work.I will look at them and report back. Thanks again

Could you just knock out the roll pin keeper then use the rifle without it in place? The extractor should still work to pop out the module.

Continuing from my last post , TC list a optional folding extractor for their ml barrel on the encore[209 primer],witch allows for bp removal. This extractor fits into the bergara barrel, but is a little different. tc uses a screw to hold the extractor in place, begara uses a roll pin. Also bergara's extractor is about 1/8 inch shorter In length and uses a small leaf spring. Why, I do not know. Okay, I am not a gunsmith by any means, but converting the tc extractor to work in a bergara barrel looked like something I could do. If I screwed up, all I lost was an extractor. So here goes. First using a bench grinder, I shortened the hinged part of the extractor to match the height of the bergara 45-70 extractor. I then using the correct size round file, cut the notch to match the size of a 45-70 case rim. The hardest part was recessing it for the thickness of the rim[used a hacksaw blade and files to do this]. Put the extractor into the action, mounted the barrel, and everything worked good. Pops the module out into your hand. HALLALUA! Time will tell if it will hold up. Hope this helps others. leftyml

Sounds like you solved a problem others will benefit from.
