If you use the Ultimate then you will need to go with an ignition system like Hank's (HIS). If you go with the 700ML then you are into a 209 system. They both work and you will get some Pro's and some Con's depending on who responds. I have both and they are both accurate and work well when properly put together along with the right loads.

Well if you want a 209 gun then go with the older Rem M/L action then do a bolt nose conversion which is a non FFL gun. The new Rem Ultimate is a FFL gun and will require a HIS ignition system with primer holders. Or the guy over on Doug's is selling new 700 bolts with a 209 primer slot they look really nice and I believe they sell for right around
Why spend $800.00 for action and a stock? You will need the 45 Cal barrel which I see your buying so the choice is yours. It all depends what you can buy a used Rem M/L for most go for under $300.00 S/S are usually more. I have the regular blued one for around $200.00 if you get lucking. That leaves you plenty of more for a stock of your choice and a bolt nose conversion.

If you are going to use the stock that comes with the ultimate then that is the best deal. If not then you should buy just an action and choose the stock of your choice.

I am going to get flamed for this but here goes anyway. Claymanjack. You are right IMO to go with the ultimate. Yoj can sell off some.parts.on Gunbroker to help offset your cost. The 700ML bolt is retained by 1 small screw that has to be properly fitted to the bolt....by depth. The bolt cams off from this screw to seat the primer in the pocket. This works just fine BUT needs constant attention and monitor the bearing surface. As it wears it doesnt seat.the.primer in the exact same depth all the time. Thus in effect allowing the primer to back out. But it will still feel tight since the carbon is building between the primer nose and the bottom of the primer cup. Now this can all be monitored and controlled with regular maintenance. And we have shooters here who habe gotten tens of thousands of shots through this system . And locking lugs will wear some also. But the bearing surface is so much larger that sontful you will ever see any effect. My last 3 builds have ben on centerfire actions mainly for this reason. Yes I have Rem700 ML.....but my centerfire are my favorite-s. No doubt in my mind that.in.the.long run you will be happier with the centerfire action. Drop
