I have been watching and researching breaks as of lately and saw something that gave me an idea. Could we have a barrel set up with a permanent break instead of one that can be screwed on and off? If so would it be a good idea or not?

Doubt that a barrel company would do all that

Get it Magna=Ported and it will be a permanent brake? One way or the other, you are going to pay for it.

why would one want a permanent brake? just asking but in my mind the option of going with or without and the option of using a different brake makes it a no brainer to have one installed, like Richard mentioned you will be paying pretty much the same money either way but permanent leaves you with no other options.

I like the removable brake I use it at the range and remove it and put the cap on when hunting One less thing to do when hunting no need for the funnel

I have to ask the same question, 'why would you want a permanent brake on your barrel'? Having a removable one with a thread protector gives you the best of both worlds. JMO........

Thread protector caps come in handy when you want to take your brake off and shoot saboted also......

It would be a ported barrel which I did on a 50Cal barrel as a experiment last year to see if I could get it to shot sabots. The barrel was only bores .010 over size and the holes were in a radial pattern.
The brake had small holes but it didn't work with a standard sabot and bullet. I did work great with a sub base and sabot and bullet. It also shot sabotless 300gr Hornady 500SW bullets as well as a 45 Caliber with sabotless bullets. The reamer I used did a good job of crowning the barrel but that is not always the case if the crown is not good accuracy will be poor.
That said If I wanted a brake put on a barrel go with a removable brake. Most important thing is you will get a good crown on the barrel and if you got a bullet stuck in the beginning of the barrel you could unscrew the brake and grab a hold of the bullet and remove it. Its just a better way of doing a brake.

First, thanks for the replies.
Second, I'm no gunsmith, and I grew up hunting not buying high dollar equipment, I bought equipment that allowed me to hunt nothing more. When buying parts for these muzzleloaders and putting together a gun that cost $700+ I still look back thinking man I used to hunt with a $150 muzzleloader and still killed just as much as I do now. What we are doing with this equipment is way over kill but it is still fun. I'd like to spend more but my lifestyle doesn't allow me too.
Third, I have learned everything I know from this site and the other site by reading, researching, and asking questions and sometimes stupid questions.
For me once I get a rifle set up, it's set up, I do not want to keep changing things, I want to hunt. I also look at it as less moveable parts the better. With all that said, I thought a break made into the barrel might be a good thing. I did think about the crown not being as good and might cause issues but still thought I'd ask the question. I watched a hunting video recently and the hunter looked like he was carrying a rifle with a permanent break installed in his rifle, looks like. So figured I'd ask.

Chad. If its going to be a hunting gun I would go with out a brake all together. It's one less thing to worry about.
