Jeff,
What are the details on your purpose built .416, what are you shooting out of it, and what does one do with a 4000fps big bore? This joint in MD is covered up in woodchucks and if I were going to shoot at many of them I wouldn't want a .45 but I'm not sure I'd go at it with a .416 either. I also know that we tend to shoot very different loads in nearly everything. This gun piques my curiosity tho.

It's just a little something I been playing with.. It's basically a 416 Krieger barrel on a 700 action. I built it to test my breech plug and primer modules against pressures and the ability to ignite large amounts of powder, so far, now misfires and no cracked or swelled primer modules... It would not be a practical gun for shooting anything... Just a piece of test equipment...

I saw the 4000 + fps on the magneto speed, I would assume the bc on the .416 bullets is higher than on the .45. If you slowed them down would it be more practical? I have been looking at small bore sizes, but bullet availability seems to be the issue. We can hunt in VA with muzzleloader bullets as small as .38 caliber, but again bullet choice is the issue.

For me the 45 caliber is the only way to go. Plenty of bullets to choose from and plenty accurate to take game at 500 yards.. The smaller bore ML's might be fun to play with but they are more work to get to shoot good.. IMO. If someone come out with a .416 thin wall jacketed bullet like a BE then I would suspect they would load and shoot better..

Give me about 5 months for the dies to show up and I'll start working on it. I finally have working .45 dies so I hope to get them ironed out and I can make a good .410 bullet after that.

Never shot groups although I was hitting the gong at 100 yards.. I can't tell the load data because it would probably blow up a nornal rifle.. This rifle was built as a piece of test equipment for the breech plugs and modules. Not to test accuracy of any barrels or bullets.. Didn't really matter if I hit a barn at 100 yards.. The test was to ignite the powder which it did do with out hesitation... Had a pretty big muzzle flash on the last shot so we learned not all the powder was burning before the bullet exited the barrel.. I have no pressure trace data so I will not publish the load data.. Please don't try to duplicate this as it could be hazardous to your health...

There was a big difference in the sound for the different powders and amounts.
