Just starting on my first Rem SML. Just seeing what my stock options are? Read threw allot of old post and seen a lot of pictures. No thumbholes unless antidxouis. Prefer to keep price in the $250 range and prefer ADL so I don't have to buy floor hardware.
Do like the boyds pro varmint. Do you have to pillar that stock or can you get by with just bedding?
Also like B&C M40 but little more then I want to spend and I think they are only made in the BDL??
Also would not mind doing my own finish on stock. Camo sponge paint. Try to match Manners Midnight Camo with out the extra coin.
Thanks

You can buy the Pro Varmint in textured black they had green maybe not now. I always pillar bed mine but if you do a really good bedding job with this laminate stock you will be ok.

What about the MagPul Hunter stock? Bedding block, several color options, a "tactical" hunting stock, but a decent option.

I have put 2 of Jeff's barreled actions in b and c m40's and they both shot lights out no bedding and no pillars to install just sand for barrel channel, but you will have to buy bottom metal.

I asked abt Magpul hunter on a different site with no replies. Magpul will need bottom metal but I think Cabelas has them on hand so I can drive 30 min and see how it fits before I buy. This will also be my first bedding job. Thanks

I have yet to use a Magpul but I have handled one and it felt pretty good, I have a lot of their AR stuff and it is always quality, can't imagine this stock would be any different.
B&C make a decent stock for the money, I have used a bunch, again you would have to buy BDL metal but they are in your price range. check with Stockeys and Red Hawk Rifles, dont remember the exact number but Dick or Les at Redhawk will know, I have bought several from them.

I would do all 3 while in the process. But I would drill and tap the small one up to the size of the other 2. You might have to tun the heqd down thiugh so as to fit in the trigger huard

Were is the best place to get pillars? I see Bronells has 2 piece set but I'm guessing to do all 3 in the Boyds Pro Varmint? Thanks Guys I don't believe you need to pillar the center screw. I've been told it should only be tight enough that it will keep the front of the trigger guard in place. I really like Score-High's adjustable pillar kit, but do not like their Probed 2000. After doing a couple rifles with the Probed, the stuff became soft and felt tacky after around five years. Devcon 10110 has never let me down and is easy to work with. I understand JB Weld also works well. On their web page, they have part #PRA-113 which is the kit. If you do a 2d project you only need the pillars part #PRA-114: www.scorehi.com/our-products/If/when the flames come about Score-High's pillars, I'll just PM you.

I have used several H/S Pro varmint for muzzleloaders. I also just used one on my 260 Rem for my coyote rifle. They are a rock solid stock and lay on a rifle rest really well or a set of shooting sticks. They normally run $350.00 on Stocky's I used one BLD stock but the ADL is stronger.
Also I really like the Boyd's Pro Varmint. You can really dress one up really nice for $225.00 I always get the up graded recoil pad and the strippling if you go with the adjustable piece piece that would be more. The Boyd's stock doesn't have a aluminum bedding bloc the length of the stock like the H/S does so I always bed the Boyd's with aluminum Pillars.
Also the H/S needs to be bedded when you drop a muzzleloader in it. The are way to loose in the recoil area for a muzzleloader. Either one would make you a great stock.
Here are some pictures of a green and a tan stock This just one of my happy customers

So I got it down to 3 choices. I found a BDL trigger guard and floor plate for $40 so that opens some doors.
B&C Medalist Tactical style 2
H&S Pro Varmint PSV 0004
B&C Medalist M40
With getting the floor plate cheap all 3 of these are with in 30 bucks of each other. Is one going to better then the other? The style 2 is a little heavier. But the B&C has the color I like at no extra charge? Black with red web. Thanks again.
