well i will be looking for a new scope for my Hankins encore SML which will be completed soon. If "You" had up to $1200 to spend on a new "Illuminated" scope what scope would you purchase??? it must have illumination due to late deer movement in michigan.

Nightforce SHV or Sightron since you didn't mention size or weight.

Nightforce SHV is right in that price range . I can't tell the difference between my NXS and the SHV as far as glass goes .

Why do you want to spend that much money on a scope for a gun that does not have the long range capabilities of a bolt action M/L there are a lot of good scopes for far less than 1K that will serve you really well. Also 30mm scopes would not be my first scope mounted on a encore barrel. I don't want to burst your bubble but you would be better off with a good quality scope with a one in tube. The gun is supposed to be light weight and fast handling for shorter ranges a big heavy 30mm scope and tactical mounts will add unnecessary weight to the gun and slow you down.

Vortex PST 4-16X50 would be a good option. I have had one for 6 years and had no issues, it is on my .40 ml now.

I have a bunch of different Brand scopes not all but a bunch Leupold,Burris, Nightforce ect... The scopes that consistently impress me is Sightron . You can get one with about any reticle you want . They also seem to take recoil . One scope I'm thinking about buying to try is that Sig Wiskey 5 . I would like to try a scope with day time illumination .

For an Encore build.
I would go with a Leupold FX3 6x42. Light, Super Bright, Very Tough, and costs $400.

Heard very good things about the Meopta MeoStar 2, come in a 2.5-15x56mm or 2-12x50mm. They retail in the $1350 range.
Both can be ordered with a illuminated recital the only draw back on the 2.5-15x56mm is it has no parallax adjustment, however on a Encore being a more limited range firearm this may not be such a large issue.
I have not used one of these scopes yet however I have been told that the glass on these scopes are on par with most high end European scopes that cost roughly twice as much and that the twilight performance on these scope are excellent.
Meopta is located in Europe and have been building optics for over 80 years, the scopes are assembled in Europe however they do also have an American headquarter in NY should you need service.
Good luck

If it was mine, I would use one of these 2 Weaver Super Slams and use the rest of the $ for other things. The biggest issue with Encores and scopes is the close spacing of the drilled and tapped holes. This makes it difficult to keep a heavy scope zeroed in. Use a one piece base such as a Warne Maxima, etch the barrel and base then epoxy and screw it on, or have it micro welded to the barrel. Use good rings such as Burris Tactical or Burris Signature (zee or non zee). www.natchezss.com/weaver-2-10x50-super-slam-riflescope-dual-x-reticle-matte.htmlwww.natchezss.com/weaver-super-slam-riflescope-2-10x50mm-ebx-reticle-matte.htmlThe second scope has an etched ranging reticle that makes it even tougher. These scopes are worth way more than the current price and are the best bargain in optics IMO. They are not real light in weight but very tough with excellent glass.

I know you have had great luck with the Burris XTRs And after you and I talked, I ordered a Veracity 3-10x42. I could not be happier. Although it isn't illuminated, I have had no issues seeing the crosshairs up till dark. Great scopes for the money and seems to be extremely well made Glass is good and it's size is just about perfect for my Hankins Encore.

Best of luck with it & your Hankins Encore
