Been researching and asking questions on a new build. Some know I am back and forth on what I'm doing for a new build however after talking to Linebauh I'm going to build a bolt gun. I want something lighter than my 11.5lb McRem which I need to lighten up as well because I'm giving it to my boy. I'll probably try to trim some weight of my McRem and change scope to a vortex diamond back 4-12 I have on my 7 mag. Hope to get it down under 10lbs.
I will be building a 45, Nebraska rules and regs limit me to this option. Going to be ordering a Brux barrel but not sure what profile. Around 25" long possibly a break, for sure a mercury recoil reducer. Not sure what stock and from the research I've done the vortex diamond back 4-12 bdc reticle it weighs in around 14oz. I haven't seen any other scope that is what I want and weighs lighter than my viper. I'll be using a center-fire action and I'll probably look at Boyds stock unless i can find something in that price range with light weight options.
My goal is 9-9.5lbs with new build and still be able to shoot moderate loads. I'm not a competition shooter and don't feel I need anything over a 275 grain bullet to do the hunting I do. I do want a gun capable of 400 yard shot for antelope hunting just in case I need it.
Any suggestions appreciated just trying to put everything together my head before I start ordering. Thanks.

Under10 lbs is tuff but can be done. Stockys offers a new carbon fiber stock at very reasonable price. I would definitely go with muzzlebreak like Hankins with load thru funnel and not use mercury reducer. No ramrod will also help. Get a 3 piece with pouch from spinjag. If staying with moderate loads you can use a barrel nut barrel install and also trim weight. 700 sa is also lighter than a 700 ml so good choice

Do you know what the stock weighs separate from your gun? I've done some research and they all seem to weigh around 2-2.5lbs unless you spend a lot of money and then your buying a stock that cost as much as the gun or more. Thanks for the info!

Why does your build have to be so light? Chad, a young ruttin' buck like yourself ought to be able to hump gear all day.... LOL

Your probably right..... but if I was your age again I'd sure like to give it a try. My break open would be a lighter option but may not have the range you are looking for.

The title of thread is New Build and then look at thread accumax-free target also first time at 300 yards.

I will get the exact weight on my MeRem tonight but I believe with the Nightforce it weighs about 10.5 lbs(not including the bipod). The stock is a HS Precision PSV004 ADL not bedded. The Nightforce weighs about 30 ounces so with the vortex diamondback you could easily get under 10 lbs. The barrel is 25" fluted McGowen. A 10/50 duplex with 250 gr. bullets is very comfortable to shoot in this gun. I don't remember the weight of the stock but I do remember it is a couple ounces lighter than the Boyds thumbhole that was on it previously.

The title of thread is New Build and then look at thread accumax-free target also first time at 300 yards. Did some more digging and found the info I was looking for, yes I believe your right this is exactly what I am looking for in a build. I was pretty set on the vortex diamond back at 14 oz but I do like the viper better and at 16oz i don't think it will make a huge difference. After the first of the year I am going to start shopping for actions and right now set on a Savage model 110 action. Found one a while back for around $300 and I bet it if I look hard enough will find one for less than $300. I want to be able to do the build myself this time which is why i am doing all the research I can at this point. Thanks again. Still like more feed back I have a lot of research I am doing before I start putting things together. Thanks everyone for input!

give me a Pm and I can tell you exactly what you need to do to meet a specific target weight, light or heavy. some options CF action with aluminum single shot follower #6 brux with 1.250 for 4-5" forward of the lug in the 23-25" range and a brake for recoil help, fluting helps with weight. fluted bolt/ aluminum bolt shroud/ firing pin .187 lug the stock mentioned above ( which I intend to use on my next build) or the Mcmillan HTG which is excellent and weighs in at about 2 1/4 lbs or some in the Manners line are great. a quality aluminum rail such as Seekins or talley and quality aluminum rings to go really light you can skeletonize the bolt handle and do an aluminum bolt knob a trigger such as a Timney with an aluminum housing will also save you a couple ounces over the factory trigger I have done several guns with these options and if done correctly with base and rings it can be done under 8 lbs. been there but it's not cheap to get skinney.

Your after a light build and they definitely add weight. Ive installed 2 of them and was not impressed will recoil reduction. Did they reduce recall yes but not much more than just adding the weight would do.

Bestill has it right! I have used them in shotguns and not been impressed with recoil reduction. Porting or a break is what you need. Then just "suck it up" and take the recoil! Find yourself a "gun bearer!"
