The first week of rifle has me hunting a ml shotgun draw hunt. I decided to put the H&R's in the safe and carry the Axis 40. The first kill was a doe at approx 50 yards. A broadside shot entered the shoulder and exited the opposite side forward of the rear ham? The second kill was a 7 point broadside at approx 80 yards. Entered behind shoulder and part of it exited next to the anus. The other part opened up the belly with entrails hanging out to the ground? The load is a 200sst at 3051 fps with 79 gr of 3031 and HIS ignition. I've seen bullets grenade but change direction 90 degrees? I have thought of different things that could be happening. I really don't want to slow them down too much because the load will become pressure starved and less reliable in cold weather. The other option is h322 to keep pressure up but scrub velocity. It doesn't really like the Barnes but I might have to revisit them. Kyle, I look forward to the new 40 cal bullets.

Well done, yes I'm curios about Kyle's 40's as well.
The 40 cal has always interested me, look forward to your report in the future.
Good luck

Haven't seen that so far with the 200sst with my 10/65 load in the .40. Probably a little slower than you are pushing them. Congrats on the harvest!

It is definitely strange. it is hard for me to believe that I hit a limb both times in order to misdirect the shot. Either way it sure did a number on them,

Bullets do strange things sometimes. Jerry, what is the jacket thickness of the 200 sst?

That is so odd, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me last Tuesday. Center of Chest hit behind the Shoulder on a broadside shot & exit in front of opposite hind quarter? It is very disappointing when the think you made the best possible shot & open it up & find it's Stomach contents! How do these bullets turn almost 90*?

I have heard a lot of good things about them but they were at 2500 to 2700 fps. I am shooting them at 3050 plus. Maybe the tip is melting or distorting in flight causing them to begin opening up.
Kyle's aluminum tip eliminates that issue.
